Default Liquid masking Tips???

Hello everyone, I need to know how to cut out the design on my car when I am using liquid mask...And how do I get it to stick better on the car when I am cutting it out?? Because when I try to cut the design out the whole patch of liquid mask peels off.

Default Liquid masking Tips???

Liquid mask eh? do you paint it on? I'm big on makin my own masks out of masking tape and a exacto knife. does it work good?

Are you just having problems getting it off? if so im not sure what the stuff is like but try an exacto just start peeling it off with that and once you get up enough pull it nice and slow. that stuff sounds like it would take my masking time and cut it in half. Once you done if you have a camera pics would be great!

Thanks i hope i was some help

Hey, yes it is best if you paint it on with a brush in thin layer coats...And yes liquid masking works great, you should try it out. We finally found out why it wasnt working, it was because we had it on too thick. But now it works fine. Ok I will try to get some pictures after the paint job is done.

To get it to stick better, be sure you wash the body with dish soap and warm water before applying it.

Also, while cutting, make sure you use a good exacto blade. On bodies with quite a bit of masking, I use Bob Hastings' 3x3 rule. You put 3 coats of Liquid Mask on the body brushing in different directions, and use at least 3 xacto blades.

Although 3 blades arent always nessisary, you do need to make sure that it is new, and not a blade that you used a week ago to get a suspension arm off a parts tree.

Putting it on to thick shouldnt have been a problem unless the blade was dull. I prefer thick over thin!

for me thicker is always better, tried it once with just one coat
spent an hour trying to peel off about 1/2" x 3" piece.
so now i use atleast 3 coats.
its amazing what a sharp #11 blade will do too.?

I used 3 or 4 thin layers on my first RC body and didn't have a problem.

Default mask

Im with bob on this one, the mask works best when its been put down a few times which makes a good thick coating.

Like previous posts show, if the body has oil residue from fingers and such the mask wont adhere as well.

I apply a coat of mask then I sit it on top of a lamp shade to speed up the drying process. Makes repeat applications go faster.

Default Mask

Great Idea Bob.
I have also sat mine in front of a fan for quick drying.
I have not done a body in a while, all this talk about bodies makes me want to paint one.
Might have to put one on order.
