Default tmaxx dual exhaust

Ok I am just full of questions. How hard is it to make a dual exhaust for the tmaxx. I have seen tons of pictures and it looks pretty simple. My dad was a plumber and I have soldered many copper pipes so it doesn't look that hard. A few 90s, 45s and a tees and I am on my way. But how do I achieve the back pressure??? Any one have a few sketches or something??

It looks easy enough, just put a tad smaller tips on it, thatll do it

Yea, but how can you create back pressure when the stock tip is about 3/8 and the dual has two 1/2 openings. I guess I dont get the physics of it.

well, size them down to what you want, I dont think there will be any performance gain out if duals at all.

SO then what you are telling me is that there is no special requirement for back pressure in the RC motors??? Just go ahead and build it???

They will run with no exhaust.

I would restrict the tips to 3/8" or 1/4" if it were mine, and see what happens, need to have some back pressure to feed fuel too.

Why not use a conventional muffler, then pipe it to 2 different exhaust tips?

Default Done

OK the dual exhaust was built and installed. I will be posting all the pipe sizes on my web page so you can have your own dual exhaust for under $15.

There was one big problem with the construction. BACK PRESSURE. Using 1/2 copper pipe there is not enough pressure to feed the fuel tank. The engine will start and idle fine but at high RPM engine leans out and stalls. I tried the smaller 1/4 tips and the same problem. Here is the solution I came up with. The stock muffler has a 1/2 baffle in it. I removed it from the stock muffler and installed it after the expansion chamber. This has created enough pressure to keep the engine running at high speeds. I have noticed a performance boost at the low end but my top end speed has slowed. I need to tinker with the carb to get it dialed in.

Once I get it all dialed in and painted I will post pictures and a schematic for construction. All you need to do this is a torch, some solder and a pipe cutter. And by the way my T-Maxx is 10 times louder that it was before. And at idle it sounds wicked .

Default All tuned up

I got that dual exhaust all tuned in. Here is what i did. This is a trick they did on the late 80s corvettes. I installed the baffle liek I said before but lost all the top end. I took a pair of vise grips and pinched the pipe. I pinched it just a bit and drove the truck around. I was better but not very quick. So I turned the screw in on the vice grips 1.4 turn and pinched again. I then test drove it. I did this about 4 times until the truck took off like a rocket and pulled the front wheels of the ground. A noticable improvement. Other than cutting my finger on a sharp pipe and a burn or 2 it was the best $10 I have ever spent on performance.

John
Now that I have it tuned I will paint it this weekend and post a shot or two. I was talking to my neighbor and he was telling me about how chevy uses the same engine in the corvette that they put in the firebirds all they do is over kink the pipe and tune it down.
