I love the XS3 but the controller wheel action is really stiff and takes away from the driving experience for me. Is there any way to modify this/loosen the springs etc?

i think the xs3 has wheel tensioner control, read your manual or try finding it at their website

Check pages 7 & 8 in your manual on how to adjust the steering tension. If you don't have the manual you can download it at the Horizon Hobby web site.

Oh man! I have memorized all the heavy feature stuff in the manual and totally missed the ONE sentence that will help my driving control more than any of it... it's the little things that kill ya'
