Default Other "jet turbine" projects ....

I know most of us here are involved with turbine jet "airplanes" but there are some other parts of the hobby that use the same jet turbine propulsion for other types of craft .. helis , boats, etc ... i have even seen cars and trains ... Anyone here model more than just jet turbine " airplanes " ??

This is a project that I have finally finished and that is ready to fly. I have worked on it on and of for several years, and now i can't wait to fly it! Its a 1:6 Eurocopter EC-135 . Power comes from a JetCat PHT3 turbine and mechanics. The kit comes with no detail, so all was added on , rivets, screws, antennas, fixtures, etc .. I still have some items to complete in the cockpit, but otherwise, its ready for spool up [8D]

That is one heck of a job. Amazing detail. The door hinges and latches etc are really well done.

A friend flys turbine helis. His Wren 44 gearbox is just like a 90 engine crank case
so it bolts straight in.

Hi guys!
Take a look at my friend Totto's Hind turbine powered heli from 2:20 into this video from our Norwegian jet meeting last year -
an amazing turbine heli that he flies with authority!

Thanks!

Mirce, its a modifies P-80. The compressor nut also has a belt gear on it, and this is for the shaft power transfer. At 96K rpm, it still will put out around 4 - 5 lbs of thrust out the rear and, necessitating good exhaust placement on the heli ( some models with rear facing exhaust have issues with this much rearward thrust .. )

Tor, that hind is great. I think the Hind looks super cool. Over in europe they have good toys .. the helis also can get pretty large !

I think the best fun project is Tim Coles superb GT3 scale train. I cannot seem to be able to post pictures because of some error 500 message, but I can show you the video. It is a Wren 54 turboshaft engine and a scratch built train chassis. There is quite a following in the Uk of model train enthusiasts and they like nothing better than going for a ride on their creations.

Nice video. Great diversity in aircraft. I had a particular interest in the smoke system on the orange Cougar.
What kind of smoke does he use?.
What kind of smoke pump?
How long does his smoke last at that volume?
