Default DLE 55 won't run

Have a new DLE55. It won't run after the engine fires. Runs just a second or two then dies. Today when trying, found if I closed the choke a little it would run fine. It would idle, and accelerate like it should. I'm not sure whether it's not enough fuel or to much air. Any suggestions would be appriciated

It iss a fuel starvation issue. Before going into fault analisys, set the needles first! Open the low and high as far as needed to keep the engine running.

I would say its getting enough air...just add more fuel to the mix...open the Hi speed needle counter clockwise and the engine should run. Open too much it will run rich. Set it for top RPM (with throttle wide open) and quick richen it up a tad. You should then be in the ball park ! Cap[t,n

Screw both needles in till they stop.
Then open them both 2 full turns.
Choke on,flip till itpops
Then choke off and flip till it runs.
If that doesn't work open the low needle1/2 turn more. (the one closest to prop)
Also look here http://www.prme.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10
Also ask for help at your club, usually the grumpier the person is, the more he knows.

You must be sucking air somewhere in the carb>>>>or the screen inside carb is block with dirt

Thanks to all who had suggestions to help my problem. Seems opening the high and low needles 1/2 turn each has solved the problem. Now all i need to do is adjust the needles since it's easier to do it when the engine is running than when it doesn't. Thanks again

Finally retried running my 55. Adjusted needles in and out, still doesn't change it. Runs for a few seconds then dies. Does run longer with choke part. closed. I'll pull the carb off and check screen and needle to see if it's opening and closing. After that I'm not sure what to check.

Did you ditch the stock plug and put a properly gapped CM6 in?

They also run a little better with the spark plug gapped at .024" rather than .020"

how many turns open do you have the needles now?
I don't know what plane you have or if it's got a cowl, but can you see the fuel line where it connects to the carb?
Is there fuel in there?
Did you use a filter clunk in the tank/ is it a new one?
is the vent working on your tank?
Have you checked the fine filter screen in the carb?
Have you tried new fuel?
Is this a brand new engine you just bought?

Today, I cleamed the screen ( there was 2-3 little pieces of stuf in it ). The one thing I did notice was, the screen type gasket looked like it was upside down. The way it was, most of the passages were covered by the gasket. The single ear on the screen type gasket was on the other corner from the ear on the other gasket. When like this most of the passages where covered up by the gasket. My question is : Should the ears on the gaskets be lined up or on seperate corners. If I need to change the ign. modual to try and solve my problem. Is the modual on the 30 the same as what's on the 55?

I still think it is carb related. It runs just long enough for me to get up after starting it and get behind the wing. It still runs longest with the choke part. closed.

I think you said this was a new engine. If so, return it to the seller for repair or replacement. It should not be that difficult to start and run.
Ihad the pleasure of breaking in my DLE55 and it has started and run great since new. They are great engines and I rank them among the best. So, before your warranty expires, return it. Have you called or otherwise conferred with the seller?

BTW ...if you need to replace the ignition, go with an RC Excel ($55 from http://www.rcextremepower.net/ignitions.html). Cheaper than the original and better ...in my opinion.

However, I still say use the warranty and send it back.

Don't worry about the ears, look at the inside where the two holes are on the carb. The gasket has 2 little tabs that should go over the two holes on the inside. They allow fuel through but do not let it back.
Simple test, block the vent line and push on the tank, if fuel flows up the carb line and then back down to the tank when you stop pushing then that gasket is on the wrong way. You can also blow into the vent line but use a second line hooked to it so you don't swallow anything. Once the fuel is in the line to the engine it should not siphon back to the tank, if it does try a different position on the gasket.

Again, the gasket has 2 tabs that line up with 2 small holes in the carb. The tabs should be the only things covering the 2 holes, if anything other then the 2 small tabs are ove rthe 2 holes then reposition the gasket so the gasket tabs are over the holes.

Tried to run my 55 again today. After everything seems the screen type gasket on the side opp. of the diaphram side was flipped over. When I flipped it over and now there are 5 holes that line up. With it upside down only 1 passage was open. Now it runs fine, was able to adjust high and low needles. I ran a complete tank of fuel and no problems. We'll see when I take it out to the field. Thanks for everything.
