G-62 w/APC 20x15 racing prop
I am assembling the Top Flight giant-scale P-47 and intend to use a G-62 in the nose and am curious about using this propellor. It is used in the AT-6 class of giant-scale racing with the G-62. Anybody with experience using this engine/prop combination?

I've used this prop many times for warbirds, using 50-60cc motors. It is actually 20x12 size. This prop is a speed prop, best application would be in say P51 airframe. The P47 has large radial cowl and pretty bulky airframe, not ideal if you're looking for speed. But it will fly ok.

Thanks for the reply! I know APC lists the prop as a 20x15 and it is for the AT-6 giant scale racing class. The planes have a wingspan greater than 100 inches and I am looking to use the G-62 and the racing prop in an 86 inch model. In any event, it should move along quite well!

The prop you are referring to is an APC T-6 prop. You have to call them to order it. I've been flying one on my T/F mustang/G-62 for 7 years now. She really moves out. It clocks around 135 to 140mph.
The T/F P-47 is a fast airframe too. (I've raced agaist them) That prop would work fine. Most of the thrust is produced near the tips anyways.

I haven't had any problems landing. Here is a landing at Joe Nall.
My G-62 with RCexcel ignition turn 7600 on the ground.

This topic has me so lost!
I have a Top Flite Gaint P51 with a DLE55 and Kelo, Iwas running a Zinger 22X8-14 duel pich prop at 6600rpms she had great power but not the speed I exspected. But I was told these big birds don't look like there going fast when they are.
Useing a speed caluclator gives me a top speed of 87mph with out accounting for drag.
A guy showed up at my feild with a Top Flite Gaint P47 with a DLE55 and a Xora 23X8. (It was a great day another flying boddy had his Hanger 9 B25 with 2 4 stroke motors and we both flew bomber exscorts) Anyways, GrantedI got the Kelo muffler wich Im sure is killing me a few rpms, his P47 was leaveing me in the dust!
At WOT at the beginning of the flight line I would be at 3/4 of the way over the feild while he would be completly passed over it.
So I went and got an Xora 22X10 prop and a Xora 23X8 prop.
And Ican tell you that the 23X8 prop is noticably faster, even thow with the 10 pich prop I had way more pontenatl speed. 6700rpms on the Xora 23X8 wich is only a prop speed of 50mph!!!
I was thinking of getting one the 20X15 props but I thoght the lack of thrust witht he 20in prop vs the 23 the mustang would fly no faster.
Anyone got a youtube clip with a TF Mustang with one of these 20X15 props?

Mike, The 22-8/14 is a slow props. It is an 8 pitch near the tips. (that is where most of your thrust is produced) I had one of those years ago. it is a wall decoration now.
If you want to go fast, you have to get the rpms up. your Keleo exhast is killing your top end rpms.( 400 to 500rpms) I had one of those before too.
I have had my Mustang clocked about 6 times of the years with different radar guns. I've always gotten a steady 125 to 130mph. Switching to an RCexel ignition gave me an few 100 more rpms on the ground but would also let the engine rev more on the dives. the CH ignition would flatten out on the dives. Almost like it had a govenor on it. She picked up a few more MPH. Also I had to switch to a side dump muffler after the pitts muffler broke. My G-62 is now turning 7600 on the ground. At last radar check it was clocked at 135mph level and 148mph in a dive.
If you want good speed, not crazy speed try a 20x12.
BTW zinger props are good for stiring paint.

small correction...On the Zinger multi-ptich props, the first pitch number is what is is close to the hub and the second is what the pitch is at the tip.

That said, I agree that they are really good for getting that paint pigment in the bottom of the can back into suspension.

It's a APC T-6 racing prop. It doesn't have any numbers on it. However, Bill at APC (I think that was his name) said it is around a 19.5 x 14. This prop was designed to run on the G-62. He told me that the AT-6 Texan class were hitting 150+ on this prop.
While he knows more about their props than I do. I do find it hard to believe that a "Box Stock" G-62 on a 100" Texan could out run a slightly "hoped up" G-62 in a sleek 85" Mustang. But I have been wrong in the past. (just look above )
You have to call APC to order this prop. It is not listed on there website. Last ones I ordered, they where $25.
Also Dave Brown can now custom cut a spinner to fit this prop. Just tell them it's a T-6 prop. They know what you mean.

BTW a 20x12 APC is a fast prop, but it can't quite hang with a T-6 prop.
