New car question, Bodies
So I have a simple question. I am new to these RC cars since I am used to planes. I have always found that asking is better and saves me money in the long run no matter how simple a question. So here it goes.
If I wanted to change the body on my Traxxas Slash how do I go about this? Where is a good place to get a prepainted body? I am assuming that every manufacture has differnet set points for how these bodies attach to trucks so am I stuck with only the one type that came with my truck?
The reason I ske is because I like the Ivan 'Ironman' truck body and I want to make my slash look like this. How do I do it?
Thanks Guys

RE: New car question, Bodies
Bascially, there are 3 options when it comes to bodies. There are some that are designed for the specific car, such as this one (just an example)... http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ear-Body-Slash
There are some which fit several models, and either have no holes or a template which you fix to the body for marking the different holes for different models, such as this one (this is actually the body I have on my jammin)... http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...Size-Fits-Most
Then finally, there are generic bodies, which are not advertised to fit any particular model and are bought entirely at the owner's risk. Most bodies can be made to fit most cars with some creative cutting and reaming.
I'll see what I can find for you, but there's something wrong with my browser right now, I'll post back in a min.

Here ya go, this is the body that people are using to make their Ivan Stewart tributes...
http://prolineracing.com/bodies/toyo...ra-clear-body/
You'll have to paint and sticker it yourself of course, here's a nice thread for inspiration... http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...Stewart-scheme....
Alternatively, there is a ready made Ivan body, by HPI, but it won't be as good quality as the proline (it'll be thinner lexan), and unfortunately, the wheelbase is 12mm shorter, which means the arches will be 6mm off front AND rear, or 12mm off front OR rear. Not the end of the world, but a shame... This is a link to an Ironman themed HPI KIT (a whole car, not a body), but I guess it should be available soon separately... http://www.hpiracing.com/kitinfo/108710/
Personally, I'd go with the higher quality proline and do the paint (white orange and red with simple enough masking) and stickers myself. Might need ebay for some of Ivan's sponsor stickers. Having said that, the HPI one is a 2 piece body which is a bit more authentic (truck bed is a separate piece from cab).

That is for the HPI Mini/Desert Trophy. It is a completely different size than an SCT.
I'd do Proline Tundra body + white lexan paint + Ivan decals.

Alright just so I understand, I get the decals, clear body, and paint. Then I apply the decals inside (the available decals are outside and inside mount) then paint the whole inside of the body with the paint. Then that's it and just cut to fit? Seems too easy is it harder then that? Thanks for the help and advice with this.

But pretty much it isn't insanely complicated.
3 things I like doing prior to painting is one I cut the body to fit, and do the holes for the body mounts. That way I don't got to guess later. Other(this is in most of the bodies instructions I've had) is you have to wash it out with a teeny bit of soap & water and rinse it out well, and wipe it out with a lint free cloth. After that then apply the window masks.

Acquire body and ecals + paint (For the decals check ebay - you could get a good price on the other things too if you want to condense your shopping to one site)
Cut body and drill holes
Paint white on inside after applying window or other masks inside the body
Peel off overspray plastic on outside of body
Apply decals
Become Ivan Stewart's 1/10th scale cousin

RE: New car question, Bodies
So i decided to paint the body but can't find the stuff I need. So i am going to look around some more and maybe not do the ironman theme truck but just a custom body to try first.
Where do you guys get your inspirations for designs from?

sometimes I see a body, and its like BAM I MUST DO THIS, kinda similar as to when I make a custom RC.
others its like uhhhh *** should I do with this like currently I have 2 unpainted bodies sitting in that point for over the last 3+months, but I've painted 2 bodies that I got after those that an idea just struck me.
