toasty

I am just toying with getting into R/C cars, I was given a couple of RTR Nikko buggy type cars, 27mhz crystal changeable types.
While I know now that these are basically cheaper end store bought units, I want to use these before getting a much more complex and expensive unit. The problem is that I am missing a TX controller.... can I use one from JR or airtronics with matching crystals? or must I find a Nikko unit? If so, where might I find one?
