Default And now...I bought my first ever Losi... :)

Following on from my 'I just bought a Traxxas!' thread, this is my 'I just bought a Losi!' thread.

If you're saying, what's the big deal, we all got a traxxas and losi or two...look at my location. I've never bought a US vehicle before I bought the Merv in all my years in the hobby, so I thought why stop there, so I bought a Losi as well. lol.

5 stars if you can guess what it is... Only one clue...

I'm the current World Champion.

lol. Collector you are a born cheat. Wasn't it you that took 4 guesses in one post in the guess the car thread?? lol.

It's the 22. I only ever raced nitro, and mostly on road, so I thought I'd try my hand at some (very) casual 2wd club racing. I was planning to get an HPI Blitz ESE, and the shop where I bought the Losi is an HPI distributor, unfortunately, they ran out of ESEs a long time ago, and don't plan on bringing any more for some reason. So I took their last 22 off their hands. I may convert it to the SC one day, but I can get a run in the buggy class too with the 22 anyway.

Might post a build...

So, if anyone's counting, I currently owe you guys...

A review of the stock merv, a re-review of the merv with just about every hopup available installed
A video of the 6s Xray truggy
A build-up and mini review of the Losi 22.

Looks like my summer hols are gonna be all about RC this year. lol. No, it's great, we're going to the summer house to chill for a few weeks on thursday, so I'll have lots of wrenching and writing time, and hopefuly I'll be able to get a cameraman out at some point too.

Default RE: And now...I bought my first ever Losi... :)

I nearly did before I bought the Merv, while a bit more top heavy, the Merv has more versatility, and I kinda wanted a traxxas so I could at least speak from a more experienced vantage point on comparisons, basically the Merv is almost identical to 70% of Traxxas' lineup, and since it is so good as well...it really is, I won't bang on about it, this isn't the thread and I'll save it for the review anyway, but I can tell you from now, that review is going to be pretty glowing, assuming nothing breaks between now and when I get round to finishing it. It's a fantastic car and actually much better on 2S than it is on 3S, which was a surprise. I'll drive it some more, see if I can break it through normal use, but it's not looking likely and I'm eager to start fitting the something like 15 hopups I have for it and making it literally a half size truggy. The traxxas response wheels are not only basically a scaled down truggy wheel, but they have a high offset increasing the width of the car, so that with the long wheelbase rear arms, you've got almost identical dimensional ratio with a 1/8th truggy, and with the center diff I've bought, it should handle like one too. Which may suddenly make it much better on 3S. Anyway, that's a taste of my writing style. lol. I'll save further comment for the review.

The point of all that was to say that my mini needs are currently fulfilled, so while I did kinda fancy a mini 8, I was disappointed by the small electronics (well done Traxxas, I must say, the mini velineon is completely mad, I don't see why people are putting 540s and 550s in this car, it doesn't need it and they're just adding more weight up top, anyway...) and felt the altogether bigger merv would be more satisfying.

The actual motivation behind the 22 purchase is...

1) I want to build a kit while we're at the summer house.
2) I miss the track, so it had to be a class where I could get a race easily.
3) I have an MMP, a Savox 1258, a 10.5t LRP Dragon BL 540 motor, and several spektrum receivers sitting in the bottom of a drawer. Plus too many 2S batteries that I don't use often enough, so it was destined to be a 1/10th 2wd.
4) The Losi 22 is a really really cool looking car, and the current world champion, how could I resist? I can't wait to paint it.
5) Finally, an opportunity to own a Losi.

I just can't do internal combustion anymore really, it's just too much trouble in the city. I would't mind a 5ive.

Well, I got rid of a couple, the Jammin SCRT, the Xray mini. Decommissioned a couple more, the Savage is back on the drawing board, has been stripped again, I'm going to fab a new center diff solution, in fact, I'm gonna fo full custom on it and make a mad stunt truck, that and converting a 5th scale to brushless are next winter's projects. The HPI Cup Racer drifter's just a roller at the moment too.

Recently I've bought the Xray truggy, the Merv, The TLR 22 and a lot of bodies!

Current collection is (if I don't forget any...in order from largest to smallest)

Smartech Thunderbolt 4x4 gas 26cc
Nutech Thunderbolt 2 4x4 gas 26cc
FG Monster Beetle pro RWD gas 26cc
Savage Flux XL brushless electric 4x4 Monster Truck
Xray XT8 with RC Monster BL conversion 4x4 Electric Truggy
TLR 22 RWD brushless electric buggy
Nutech 1/10th on road, simple 4x4 electric touring car
HPI Cup Racer Drift Edition 4x4 pure ten scale brushless electric drifter
1/16th Mini E-Revo VXL 4x4 brushless electric mini monster truck
Yokomo MiniQlo 1/18th 4x4 with worm drive electric crawler

I think that's it. 10 exactly at the moment, lowest its been for a while.

Oh, I also have a brushless plane and heli...

Heck I wish I had anything lol. Currently I have absolutely nothing, except for my bro's old Rustler that has a bad motor. I do have a Losi Comp Crawler that's on its way. Guy had over $1K invested and the thing looks really nice. Let's hope so anyways...

Yep exactly. Wanted to start my collection over. Yeah it's gonna be some work, but all I had was stuff that would either break down too easily or was just old and worn out... both of which become frustrating very quickly. Like I said I'm getting the Losi Comp Crawler that's almost fully aftermarket but I plan to get something else soon. I'm thinking maybe of getting into small electric helis or into nitro cars as well as having my electric stuff.
