Default Looking for input and ideas!

Got my new wing and body in for the 8ight, looking for input and inspiration for the new paint! I ended up getting the JConcepts high downforce wing in white, and the Illuzion hi-flow body. I am pretty well set in doing the whole thing in just black and white, a contrasting front/back type of design is what I am looking for, for cases of lower-light indoor and night races. Since the wing is white, I will use white as the "main" body color, so I am looking for inspiration to feed on for what to do with the black, possibly some kind of tribal style flames in solid black coming off the front, but that I am definitely not set in as far as patterns. Fire away! Pics help too!

Zebra stripes! Kind of like this, but in black/white (mine are tiger stripes, but you get the idea):

what about something like ken blocks gymkhana fiesta... only looking at the black and white parts

U could invert it so it looks like a black body thats had a can of white paint droped on the roof and looks like its dripping down the sides....

That's a Tamiya Durga body (DB01 chassis). It is cool looking, but sits really low, so it's always resting on the ESC. [&:]

Cool deal. Yeah, I just use rattle cans too, although liquid mask helped a ton with these stripes (and the last tiger body I did on a Bosscat). I cut out all the stripes freehand with an exacto knife.

Nice! I do like that Durga body though, very unique, almost alien, in a world of big bubble cockpits

The LHS only had black, so I have just finished that, waiting for it to dry enough to cut out the mask from the window edges and make my yellow trim next, by the end of the weekend I should have my hands on some white paint to finish with.

She's gettin there. I use only roll tape, no liquid mask, so yes, this was a real pain to get even close to right! I am waiting on a can of white right now to finish it, the hobby shop a few minutes away has none and until I can get my truck fixed tomorrow I have no way to the other one, so waiting waiting waitinnnng

Edit: I had to take the outer cover off, btw, to see where to fix the black before i did the yellow. Guess I'll just have to be real careful when painting the rest! And I always cut, trim, and ream after the body is painted, I've heard many say that is backwards but it always works for me
Looking good so far. Do you exacto knife-cut the masking tape then, to mask off the flame shapes?

Nope, my mask was made up of 1000 pieces placed strategically

Yes, I used an exacto blade haha Took a long time, as well, but it looks good enough for me! A few small bleeds here and there that you can't even see unless you are up close to it. Any "jagged edges" were fixed with a fine-tip black paint marker. Then the yellow window trim was cut and sprayed, and the rest of the tape removed.

I liked the thinner, sharper lines in the pattern of your tiger paint, but since I'm only a fan of animal print for the novelty, I figured I would use similar for another pattern, and these flames came out of it haha I went thru my German colors phase (Black, red and yellow/gold), now I seem to have a thing for black and white. Already thinking my next body will look good in a urban or winter camo pattern, maybe difital style camo. I get bored and make another body about twice a year, so near the end of indoor season I'll change again!

That is looking very sharp. Great job!

I'm about to take on my first "paint job" soon (for my Hyper 7). I'm thinking of painting the shell Blue and Silver (with the Dallas Cowboys star on each side), a white wing, and white, spoke wheels.

Something similar to the pic below. NOTE: That is not my car (I doubt I will do as good of a job as that one...especially on my first attempt). ;-)

I did a PL Desert Rat body for my bro's brushless Rustler not too long ago. Turned out great and I spent less than two hours on it total. All I used was masking tape, some printer paper (to cover up larger areas), and 3 cans of Pactra lexan paint.

The body in the pic would be easy, it is only one solid color with stickers! Some "pro-tips" for you tho John:
Mask off lighter colors, and paint dark ones first
PATIENCE
Keep the can 8-12 inches from where you are painting and do quick thin coats
PATIENCE
Use several thin coats to eliminate runs and too-thick paint spots
PATIENCE
If you can help it, leave the outer paint protector layer on there until you are finished
PATIENCE

Take your time, and if you are stuck, most of us on here can give you good advice on where to go with it next! Nice team choice, btw, I grew up watching the 'Boys with my Gpa until he passed away, I do not like sports, but I make sure every Thanksgiving to load up on food and whiskey, find a recliner and watch the game in memory of him!

LHS FINALLY got the $#%^ white paint in and called me so I ran down and picked it up. Got this thing finished, it seemed more like a month than a week with all the waiting! Well, it seems as tho the waiting was worth it. Not to "toot my own horn", but IMHO, this looks amazing, especially for tape/rattle can hehe

Speaking of Zebra stripes...

Just go with the ugly, can't miss on the track, WW2 ship camo, like the guy I bought my D8T from did.
Think it's called "Dazzle" of all things...
Been running it for 2 years.

Looks good! Very clean look to it. That'll change of course once you cartwheel a few times.
