Marc it works on any landing gear size or is just for specific models?

What is the method of retardation? does the power opperate some form of solenoid to add friction to the wheel or is the wheel retarded by magnetic coil?

Nicos,

We plan to retro fit the brakes to most landing gear, the question as the whether its possible lies in the wheel design, some just wont be doable, others will be fine.

When we start the manufacture after Jetpower we will request a wheel and leg from the customer to which we will then evaluate the options and advise yes or no, the price we set will be the same for all but the very large gear sets.

Peter,

It works using an electromagnet coil and a special 'floating' disc so no complex moving parts which could cause issues, the only wear will be slight and we estimate many years before any replacement discs are needed (subject naturally to 'normal' use!)

Can they be fitted to Springair retracts?

The ones we use for the tornado are the same units now supplied to fit the shulman Aviation Turbinator<br type="_moz" />

Will you be ready for production after price is released also? This looks nice btw..
Between electric brakes and electric retracts, no more air sounds good..

Im in the process of building a 120" PC 12 and think this will work great..

Ian, see me at Jetpower with a set and I will be able to tell you if they would work OK - need a wheel and leg.

Califlyguy, yes we will. PC21 stunning plane - an all time favorite.....

Marc,
Just wondering if you have a prefence to the radial, like the old drum brakes where a O ring pushes outward as in centrifugal, or the "Disc" brakes where the pressure is lateral along the axis of the axle? Two totally different types of engineering.

John,

Its more about space and what engineering can be sensibly made that functions well for the job in hand, the 'floating' disc method we use seems to tick many boxes, yes there will be cases where it is not ideal but its hard to satisfy all.

As long as we have a sensible hub area/space we are likely to be able to make an Electro-brake fit.

Interestingly its not a lateral force the Electro-brake applies, its actually a force similar to that of a drum brake in that its applying forces in the opposite direction to the rotation if the wheel in the same axis.

Marc will shortly be fitting a set to my 1:2.6 jet. I'll post pics etc once completed. The demo units worked 100% for 3.5 days solid at Jetpower with 100s of people switching them on and off so I'm confident they'll be totally reliable in a model in the real world.

Rgds,
Mark

I did scan the Jet power messe for electric breaks and there were a fiew. Most seemed not to be very clever and they seem to have limitations in max breaking time etc. However the GBR-Jet breaks clearly displayed the funktion at the test stand with it's adjustable ABS force. Also the pricetag was good I think. (taylor made units to suite your retracts)

As I have not tested them on an airplane yet I can not tell how they work in real life but at the test stands they were clearly standing out when showing the funtion.

I believe pricing was 199EUR at Jetpower. I'm sure Marc will chime in soon with any correction.

It seemed that most who bought a wheel/leg over to ask if it could be done came away happy so it's clearly a pretty versatile setup that suits most combinations.

To answer a few questions above.

The Ultra bandit wheels have a very small wheel hub, a customer has sent me a set to look at and we cannot get the electronics to fit in these. The customer has decided to swap out the BVM wheels and use Jet-!A wheels which are more suitable to our electro-brakes.

i3dm - as with all electro-brakes we NEED to have one wheel and leg sent to us to work from, only then can we answer the question as to yes we can or no we cannot - each brake system is made specifically to fit a given wheel/leg and therefor we wont risk making them from drawings, emailed measurements etc as it just does not work. Send them to me and I can come back with an answer.
