SLEDGE
I have the wing completed finally. Any suggestions to bonding the wing to the fuse, CA or Epoxy?
Are there any suggestions elsewhere needed that the instructions does not clearify?

RE: SLEDGE
I epoxied mine...I like to smear glue in the fuse, and on the wing. This gets both halves wetted with glue and I think it makes a better bond. Also, gives you a little time to get it lined up before it sets. With the tapered wing of the Sledge, you can slide the wing into the fuse without making a huge mess.
That's just how I did it..CA would work, too...but I was too chicken to risk it.

I went with epoxy as well.... I've used CA before and it seems to get loose with time and travel.... Although the Sledge repair I'm doing is getting a little CA up front where the wing came loose....

RE: SLEDGE
how do you prevent the wing from moving or shifting, while the epoxy dries.
I have always used CA. In a bad crash the wing would always come lose. But the knife Paul build I now have crashed my knife HARD a few times and the wing hasn't moved. so from now on I am going to use epoxy.
Also do you use epoxy for the stabs, or do you use CA.

RE: SLEDGE
Well my method for holding a wing is a little more elaborate and time consuming but practically guarantees perfection. I put pins in the top of the fuse the nose and the tail. Then on the wingtip put a pin in the side at the LE and TE. I then run threads from tip to nose, TE to tail, and tip to top of fuse after you apply epoxy.
With a little tension on each line you can make minute adjustments and they will hold all night while the epoxy cures. You could also use the threded end of the pull pull setup so all you have to do is twist it in or out to ajust the lines.
Like I said it is kinda involved but nothing is more frustrating[:'(], anger inducing[:@], forcing someone to want to see how well balsa burns[sm=punching.gif] than to have a wing shift while it is curing.
I just noticed that the Avitars in this thread are all Sledge's

RE: SLEDGE
I made the wing one peice instead of two parts. From building my ARF Knife I use the glass tape and CA. I just remembered it being a pain to make sure its inline. Is the tape and ca better than using epoxy........It seems that the epoxy would be stronger?

Basinbum, I am the designer of the sledge and you can email me at [email protected] for any questions you may have. Also, do not listen to atomicfawg about those crazy legs, the Carbon fiber gear is way cooler. (grin) Jeff Williams

RE: SLEDGE
The cf gear cost $24 per pair and comes in blue, yellow, red and black. Shipping is $3.85 or free if you are a pro bro.
I want it clear I was just kidding about the cf gear being cooler comment. I think crazy legs are great and fault noone for buying them or any other gear they wish. Just a little harrassment from me, just trying to have some fun in all this so please do not think I was being sarcastic or rude to any other gear. Jeff W. [email protected]

RE: SLEDGE
I will have to admit the sledge kit is a good design. I had some pretty good wood and all went together as planned. Im on the last stages of covering and Im debating on landing gear, I have a set of crazy legs but the CF gear is tempting. Im gonna put the os46fx up front with the tank in the wing and hope that I will be able to fly this bird the way it should.
