RE: flite metal
Flitemetal and stick on foils look ok, but if you want a real aluminum finish, there is nothing like getting the plane actually thermally plated in aluminum as an option .. We handle MetalMorp for RC/models ... whole aircraft, or just small pieces, anything can be plated... and it does not wrinkle or dent at any slight touch .. Plating also weighs around as much as a pant/clear coat job, and a lot less that aluminum foil as well .
the all aluminum F-86 at this year's Top Gun ( flown in proam i believe) was plated by the MetalMorph process ... years and years old, and no dents, looking real
for anyone who would like to know more, email or PM me

Hey Dino,
As an example, ( based on P-47 aircraft that have been MetalMorphed) a CARF 110" P-47 will run at $4125. This includes every door, part, canopy etc ... primed, plated, and polished to an aircraft grade aluminum finish. A yellow aircraft P-47 would be $3375 by comparison. .. so figure one of yours would probably end us somewhere just under $4k .
Paint with customer supplied masks for stars and bars as an example would be around $400 - $400 if you want us to do it ... otherwise, you just need an etching primer. We also have a nomenclature decal kit that works with the aluminum, and allows you to print "dry transfer" style decals right from ANY laser printer .. even ways to do white "
Rivet and scale screw work goes in after the plating, and looks absolutely awesome... either hot iron, or scribed rivets look great.
For smaller items, we can do by the sq foot ( 1sq' min ) starting at
$185 for 1 sq'
$175 for 2 - 5 sq'
$165 for 5 sq' and up ...
I will have a full pricing matrix up on our site for reference soon also . I know many guys have wondered how much it costs. It is on the pricy side, but comparitavely, so would be a good airbrush paint job with mirror perfect clear ... the metal can be dulled, or scuffed to look like real aircraft skin .. if you dont like it , juts polish it out back to a shine .. the metal is very very durable and will not crack or peel off at all.
all best,
Voy

While metal tape for $6 can be made to look ok, and even great in some cases, there is no comparison to actual plating. It will never get the same finish and surface As for a plane as big as a P-47 from CARF, or the F-86 pictures, it would take a lot more than $6 , and hundreds of hours in tape ask anyone who has seen either side by side, or even just the plated process in person, and people are always surprised with how it looks. The biggest problem ends up being everyone trying to touch the darn planes to see if they are not really metal ..
the biggest problem with the tapes, no matter how well applies, or even sanded down, they will peel up, and dent very easily with as little as running a fingernail over it :\ .. with that said, i agree, its not for every model .. especially if the model costs less than the plating would! . But, yea, $4K IS pricey, and it depends on what something is worth it or not for someone. Some people think we are nuts to pay $5K for a toy jet engine, some people see them and want one right away no matter what. its the same with paint. Good painters will charge upwards of $2000 for a detailed quality paint job, ( the paint can run several hundred alone in materials) , others will use $25 of spray cans and make that look ok,... but its never the same .
Ultimately , its about what looks good to someone and what makes them happy with their project relative to the cost

its al about, how nuts you are....
i like model airplanes, but me, iwould fly a plane more than 6000 euro, as we al know, at the end it will crash some time....
but like you said, its al about ,if you have the money and the guts, what the heck......
