Visiting Chile - Manecojets 2013 - CACH
The day has come..
The Roo is ready to go to Chile! Hope I am not overstretching too much the life of this plane.. still one of my favorites and also extremely attached to it, since parts of it started flying in 1999 as my first jet.. Had attended some meetings with it by air travel. however this is the first time that I travel outside the country with it and the travel requirements are more strict. Also hope to not have problems at all, as I think the requirements are met.
This event will happen at the CACH, Club de Aeromodelismo de Chile near Santiago.. Need to take this box, the luggage , old bud Kaminski with his mobility scooter, the tools, transmitter, the computer, and of course Gabriela the GPS with some random knowledge of the streets of Santiago.

Is that the new club field in Santiago? I flew at the old field on layovers but heard they moved to a new location. I remember the lake, the on road and off road tracks, heli area and CL ring and this has them too so I was wondering if it's still the old one.
Have fun...those guys are the best!

Indeed it is!
The property is huge, with 60 acres.. no buildings to worry about in case of crash over the flying area. The runway is 820 x 60
It is also cool that they have a glider and a u-control runway.

Enrique:
Is good to know that you are on your way and that you will be visiting us.
We move to our new club a little bit over a year ago and since then, a lot of work has been done. The project was done by an architect that belongs to the club and it was presented to all the club members several times in order that everybody could give their input. Based on this, the project suffered many changes before it got the OK to go ahead. All the different disciplines had a chance to make changes based on their experience and I must say that this was a good idea. Nowadays, nobody can complain that they didn't have a chance to change things or that their area doesn't work for them. In summary, everybody is happy with the results.
There's still a lot of work to be done. Our club house is not ready yet and I think it will only be available by the end of the year. The idea is to offer lunch every Saturday and Sunday to the club members in the club house as it use to be done in the old club. We'll have two terraces. One looking at the big runway and other looking at the lagoon.
The layout of the club now is finished so the next stage is to start working on the details. For example, in the are were we have the containers (airplanes warehousing) now we are planting some tress in order to make it look nicer. We are also going to be working on the grass around the runways.
One of the best features of our club, is the possibility of having containers in order to be able to store your planes. For a lot of us with several planes it would be impossible to have them all at home and it would be a a pain to carry them every weekend to the club. Instead, we have in some cases, joined two containers and transformed them in a big warehouse/shop. And the best thing is that you can always have your planes assembled and ready to fly.
Tonight I will post some pictures of how the club is looking for the event.
By the way, we decided to move away from our old club not because it was small, but because we were being surrounded by factories and houses so specially flying was becoming very dangerous. I'm enclosing a picture of the old club.

By the way, we should have more than 90 pilots in this event. People are coming from places like Brazil, Argentina, USA, Germany, Spain, etc....

Gonz,
Tell Aurelio I said hi. Have him FB me.
If I start flying to SCL again I guess I'll have to join the club and ship a jet down there to keep on sight...Michele should be able to hook me up I'll bet!

Well, I am back from Chile, and I doubt that I would be able to write in words of any language how good it was. The Manecojet in the CACH was fantastic, as well meeting Gonzalo, Pablo, Tilaco, Eduardo, Daniel, Oscar, Mijael, Michel Durand, etc.. Their country is gorgeous and the club suits well this land and this people!
For a start, I gathered some pictures and put them together in a video.. about the music, sorry, it Ã*s not the usual rock related music but a andine tune of a religious service celebration that I couldn´t turn off my head after I saw the Andes for the first time! Also flying at the cach with the full moon raising at the end of the day, was something else.

And now some pics with info... Tavelling in a international flight with a jet case wich is not a BVM case is not impossible, althought labourious. TAM airlines requirements is that total luggage weight cannot be over 45 Kg, and everything about 23 Kg you wil pay aproximately Us$ 10 for each extra kilogram. The case´s sum of lenght, width and height dimentions can´t exceed 293cm. You can´t transport Li-Pos in yout plane, and all other batteries should not be inside the airplane and all contacts should be isolated. Also a multi language declaration with your name, address, etc. explaining that you comply with this requirements is needed.
For pure chance, my box was also small enough for going thru the X-Ray machine so it wasn´t opened. The fact that it is transpartent and airport officers watched the Roo also helped a lot to explain my intentions in the foreign country..
We arrived to Santiago at about 9:00 pm and again the full moon reflecting it´s light to the snow covered Andes where amazing to watch..

Santiago is a beautiful city, as also this 60 years old club.. This one is multidisciplinary, with r/c facilities, u-control, pond for boats, on and off road r/c car tracks, a separate field for flying gliders and a big club house and metal shadows, wich also give the best level of protection possible to their users.. things are well done there!

One of the coolest features of this club, is that they have a small "city" of containers, in wich their members can store their models and tools and have also a coach, tv, heaters, etc,, for them or their wives take a nap ... (foto credits Michel and Gonzalo)

A nice surprise was meeting there Andreas and Marc, Composite-ARF owners demonstrating their products in their stand... Funny that I bringed my Kangaroo wich was my first jet plane I bought in 1998, when he was demonstrating it at Superman.. This 15 year old airframe keeps flying and flying and it is so practical in every possible way and still flies good that I wouldn´t sell or exchange it for any amount of money in the world. I have a strong emotional bond with this plane!

Also Skymaster is well represented by their well know representant in Chile, Michel Durand. He was the first guy to fly a turbine jet in Chile.. great dealer and friend he is the guy if you want to buy a scale jet at a reasonable price that works.
Also Emmerich Deutch and Enrico Thater where present and had a good time with us. Extremely kind and gentle persons with tons of knowledge, is very rewarding to talk with them.
The 3D performance of the J-10 wich weights only 10 kg is impressive, but what surprised me most is how smooth now it flies at speed (usually the first minutes of Enrico´s demo flights) .. The reason is that the fleet of 4 conventional gyros this airplane had, was substituted by a single i-gyro unit with it´s advantages. It wouldn´t be possible to fly the envelope Enrico flys without it, as the speed related gain on the gyro circuit (should I call flight control system?) .. Enrico is also a top notch pilot and the results are a step forward in r/c development.. pretty to watch this plane fly and the cheering crowds seems to endorse my impression.

Raul Lozano and his team demonstrated the EXM.. this wood and oracover jet is very light and very clean. It is like the offspring of a Turbinator and a Bandit.. Flew very well.
Meanwhile Mr. Manecojet itself was enjoying the landscape...
