Default New Evolution 20cc gas engine

I just purchased one of the new Evolution 20cc gas engines. Does anyone out there have any experience with this engine as yet? I plan to install the engine in an Great Planes Stuka.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

no problem, while I can't talk about the 20GX... I've been very happy with both the 10GX and the 15GX. Easy starting and so far reliable engines.

My Evolution 20GX gas engine powered GP Stuka is almost complete. I am looking forward to the engine break-in and maiden flight.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

I completed the odds and ends on the GP Stuka today and the plane is ready for the first engine break-in run. I plan to run the Evolution 20GX gas engine tomorrow.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

I performed the ground break-in run yesterday on the Evolution 20GX gas engine powered Great Planes Stuka. A short clip from the break-in run is shown in the video below. Sorry for the poor quality but I had to shoot the video alone with a cell phone.

How does this 20cc compare weight, power wise, etc. with the DLE / ZYZ (valley view)?

I had the maiden flight of my Evolution 20GX gas engine powered Great Planes Stuka today. I had two good flights and things went very well. The plane flies quite well and the engine perfomed perfectly. The engine has plenty of power and most of the flights were at about half throttle. So far, I am very impressed with the engine. Sorry but, no video, I just have not been able to find someone locally that can video a flight without all blue sky and sound only.

Best wishes and good safe flying.

Good report. I like it! I think the DLE 20cc is about 29oz. complete and they usually turn a 17x6 or 16x8? prop.

For that size and weight my vote would be 20cc for sure.

I have an Evolution 20cc on a hangar 9 P-47 60 size. Engine runs fine but has a severe lack of power. Tried to run a Biela 14-8 4 blade prop which looked awesome. Would only turn 4800 rpm. Anything larger than 15-6 will not spool up at all. Anyone else have a power problem ?

Hi opspro,

Was the 15x6 you tried to run a 2-blade or was it a 3- or 4-blade? A 14x8 4-blade is a heavy prop, but I would think it should turn it either way.

Out of curiosity, when did you purchase the engine?

Thanks,
Jimmy

My Phoenix Ryan STA is almost ready for its maiden flights now. Phoenix Ryan STA, Evolution 20 CC Gas engine, J-Tec muffler (note: the stock pitts style muffler that comes with the engine would not fit this plane), 16 oz tank, 15x8 prop, weighs in at 9-1/2 lbs full of fuel.

Best wishes and good safe flying.
