Default Weatronic English voice file !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got advised by the Weatronic team that the English voice file for the Wea Tx modules should be released before the end of the week.
It will come together with new firmwares and Gigacontrol version ( windows 8 compatibility should be ensured as well ).
Alleluia!

As you know Oli, you are not the first person to be advised by Alwin/Weatronic that the English voice file is "next week"! I hope this time they are telling the truth but do you have any confidence that they are not fibbing again this time?

Hi all.
A very positive message.
I have just had a very very long phone call with Alwin.
and there are a number of positives.

The English voice should be available late April early may....

Alan,

I asked Alwyn about the english voice file at last September's Jet Power meet and he said 'next month.....'

RE: Weatronic 2.4 RF diagnostic tool
Since I get a regular number of enquiries about Wea I asked Alwin for an update:

I also requested news on the English voice files, as I was told in Dayton at the JWM that it was finished. David.

RE: Weatronic 2.4 RF diagnostic tool
I had a couple of hours with Alwin on Monday and he has now returned to Germany. The stream of info I got was quite mind numbing but here are some of the salient points,
OK, news:

The English spoken is done and will soon be released on new software update.

Just had email from Weatronic about new software, new Giga control has voice out data can any one else confirm what I am seeing!!

Just loaded on Giga ver2.63 going to tie up with Tx and see what happens...

ummm does not appear to be a 'en' voice file so still no English voice file also the DV4 version I had running was 2.61 which is still the same.. the only thing that appears to be updated is the Giga control hopefully we get the voice file soon...

Ok further I have found V2.63 for DV4 and the EN voice file !!! was in the Giga software update just loading it in...

Ok have 2.63 loaded when looking in Giga control it confirms the 2.63 and the voice file has loaded and now shows '2.63 English' at first it just displayed unknown.
Just plugged in the headphones and heard ENGLISH for the first time, now I gotta remember how to set the rest back up as it has been so long!!!
Going to load V2.63 in to micro next...

Oli, have you had chance to try and load yet?

Lol the English voice file has a German accent....but definitely English.... just transmitting Tx and states Rx minimal which is correct as it is not switched on, also set for test Tx battery test every 30sec which 'she' is reporting '10.2v' when the MX24 is showing 10.0v but that is close enough...

Quick voice set up, all ok you can set volume of the BEEP alarm but not the voice volume? Second pic shows settings in MPH and FEET speaks these clearly also set up when I change switch position!

Found one bug I think, when I move switch (ch12) into centre it remembers my selected item and repeats straight away but when you down power the Tx it does not remember this function but it does remember top switch position! On plugging into the Giga control it remembers straight away as soon as I move switch positions I get the 1x selections I made in the software (1st change after switch operation)
Ok after around 2min it started to remember my selection ie GPS height when I move the switch from top to centre it now works

One of the problems we have seen before still happens, zero Tx frames briefly but no fail safes. I have had running around 3 hours and I ended up with 10 files on the SD card but only one of the files had this zero frame issue. Not too bothered about this has I have had this happen on some flights and it has not caused any problems that I know of...

Been testing the beta file for a while. Not yet absolutely perfect but definitely a good improvement form previous versions.
Note the "voice output" tab that is configured for 3 switch positions. I recommend using the output from the flaps channel. This way you have a set of announcements for flaps up ( the altitude readout is great for fine tuning elevator trimming when the model is very far away like for UAVs or gliders ), for takeoff flaps ( no minimum speed alert, but maximum speed alert set for Vr ) and landing faps ( minimum speed alert set for 1,3 Vs. Vs can be found by doing a stall with landing flaps.

Also just to confirm what Alan said, the firmwares and voice file are in the Wea folder under / GigaControl/ firmwares. The DV3 module is not upgradable to 2.63 and I am not sure if the new voice file will work on this one. I have an old one somewhere and must try it.

Oli

That's a great idea using the flap switch to select voice and easily programmable with my MX24 or via Giga

Thanks for that

How'd you get the voice file to load Alan? I have the same issue, 2.63 confirmed, voice file (unknown) also, the yellow "test" light remains solid.

Ahh, got it now! For anyone else wondering, the voice file takes several minutes to upload after the update. The solid yellow light indicates it is in progress!

Yes Edgar. The DV3 module does not have enough internal memory to store the new voice file I think. But I must try it first...

Hi Mike, I have been trying to reply to you but RCU would not let me in!

Yes the yellow led indicates voice file still loading.....just give it longer...I read the manual that came with the Giga update (afterwards )

ATM the voice files seem to be working 100% like I said there does seem to be small problem when switching from middle to high then back to middle where it should imediately speak this only happens when turning Tx off then back on. After short while the command does return ie it speaks as soon as you switch from high to middle...

I would really really like to know what is behind these brief instances of “Zero Frames” which seem to randomly appear in the logs. Is it a real issue, or a programming bug??? ..

And be aware, the fail safe counter in the micro receivers is useless. You cannot assume that the receiver has not gone into fail safe, just because there is no record of it in the log file. The Gizmo receivers are better as they have an on board SD card, but you would need to check the card after every flight.

I'm going to load 2.63 now to my Tx now..

I am impressed, so far.

Installed v2.63 on my PC and loaded the firmware on my DV4 no problem, and all seems to be operating correctly.

Gigacontrol now has a new window “Voice Output” which enables a host of different data streams to be selected for voice output. All seems very flexible and user programmable.

I have a Link Vario and pitot on my Bandit, so am now keen to get some real time experience with this set up.

And I do like her accent.

So for the many of us with a DV3 there is still no english voice? How come it worked with the german voice file? Not impressed by this. Many years ago I bought the speaker on the broken promise that the en voice file was about to be released and even now it is stil useless. Anyone want to buy an unused speaker?

The release notes for the rx v2.63 say "gyro improved". Does anyone know what the improvement is? I am especially interested since I have had serious problems with wea gyros responding to sound and causing major glitches and am therefore interested to know what this improvement is.

Roger

I was going to get the Link Vario and pitot but was not going to by until we had the EN voice so will be interested in your tests!
Did you get the same when switching from high to middle AFTER a power off/on ie voice not working for a while (1x operation)?

Harry, sorry that you seem not able to get this to work with DV3 real bummer... have you thought of contacting them and ask for same offer as I got when the upgrade was offered? I thought the speaker was only good for the beeps and not the voice?

Alan

I contacted Weatronic and was advised that I could get the airspeed using the Mux box , instead of the Vario. Is there an advantage of using the Vario for jets? After all, the Mux is cheaper.
Will have to get the DV4. At least I can get a credit for the transmitter later.

Edgar, you can trade in the DV3 for a DV4 at a special price. Just contact them again...

I will be, and Jens has confirmed the En voice will not work on a DV3, so I will try and remember to bring the speaker with me.
