Default traxxas stock brushed motors

Okay so I have a (electric) traxxas XL5 bandit Buggy and it came with a Traxxas Titan 12T 550 motor . Now this is the stock motor that it came with and after a month of running it and cleaning it broke down and stopped working. So I bough another one of the same kind and the same thing happened but it lasted longer and a little piece of black stuff in it came out. I need to find a TRUST WORTHY motor that wont break down anytime soon..... Any suggestions?

Why not go brushless?;
BL ESC; http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Version_2.html
BL Motor; http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...or_2600Kv.html

or if you want to stay brushed; http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXDLME&P=FR

do you have an idea of how many packs you've gone through per motor?

The Titan motors are very hit and miss. Some will last years, others will last one run. Your best bet would be to go brushless, or get a rebuildable brushed motor.

Also that brushed motor is exactly the same at the Titan 12t, they get them from the same supplier. They're Mabuchi motors that they put their own sticker on.

The Titans are junk. I never plan to buy one again. If you have to stay brushed, these are ok: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atomik-17T-D...item20d3c522df

Agree on the hit or miss aspect
My nephews extremely used, and abused pede(yellow XL-5) still has its stock titan 550
I bought a titan 550 (before I knew they were crap) due to how much abuse his had, and it proceeded to die in under 3 10 min runs.

I had 2 die before going brushless... haven't looked back since

Running them in and slightly lowering ur current gearing will give it a better chance of surviving longer
