Best 1/10 Rc MT
Hey guys,
I currently own a Savage xs rtr model and am looking for and upgrade, i don't really like the savage xs that much. I would like a truck with more ground clearance, and a bit bigger. I've been looking at the Traxxas Stampede 4x4 vxl, and the Vaterra Halix. I would need a 4x4 truck. Any other good trucks out there?
I'm looking for something that doesn't need lots of upgrades, and is very sturdy so...
Thanks for any replies!
My price maxas at 430 btw

the pede 4X4 isn't a bad truck... just I feel its over priced
Its main issue I have with it are the sliders those I feel should be metal out of the box as after awhile on the power they get wobbly.
One nice thing about it is for $40ish you can get an optional center diff (what I have in mine) that replaces the slipper.
I run mine more in between a ST, and a truggy. Stadium truck tires, but with a center diff.
Can't comment on the Vaterra Halix cause I've never even heard of it before
Only other MT I know of in that price, and size range is a HPI Wheely king, but I doubt that would do what you want as its brushed solid axle MT that really can't take BL (without a lot of upgrades)

Id say the vaterra. It seems to be a great mt out of the box(from vids ive seen)
The thunder tiger mg3? Something or other I cant recall exactly what it is sorry but that seems really good too.

Sorry, the only brushless ive got is my exo terra. Great buggy.
Id give some good looking at that vattera if thats in ur price range.
Check out redcats terremoto too. It will be a bit cheaper I think. Theres a bunch of vids on youtube for that one too.

4x4 pede, capable but a bit slow and weak drive shafts. but both can be upgraded. but the model alone hits your max price range.
There is the redcat terromoto. haven't owned one yet but have read mostly good about it. it is 1/8 scale, but they are soon releasing a 1/10 scale version of the same chassis. Either version will be in your price range. With the 1/8 scale, you will be running 2 batteries at a time...something I have never liked. The 1/10 will be a single battery im sure.
A brushless wheely king would be neat. Cant go too crazy on power tho, without upgrading the axles and driveshafts. But a 35amp ezrun with a finned out 380 motor on 2s should be fine. you can get the truck and the BL system for $300. Leaves money for other upgrades.
you could buy a axial dingo kit, install a brushless system and big tires
I will have a kyosho mad force cruiser I am selling. 1/8 scale, but it is a solid axle truck. Sucker is huge and has tons of power! They go for $550 new. But I got mine used and it was in your price range. only downside is parts support in USA is weak. But then, the parts hold up well.

Lol! I was surprised to see all the replies until I saw the date and realized the thread's age! BTW the Halix from what I've read on other forums the Halix seems like a pretty durable and quick truck. It has plastic shafts too (Summit style) but no reported issues yet and there's metal cvd's available from Vaterra. The weakest link appears to be the body posts and the fine pitch (48p? I think) spur gear.
