Mine pulled better with a 20x6. Good climb-out & landing speeds was lower for bumpy fields !

No experience with that prop, but as I remember, mine turns an APC 18x8W at 8500 or so. I would think if you should be getting, something similar?

Zoar props load the engine more than most other props. An APC in particular would turn more rpms than the Zoar.

Is this engine on a flying airplane or are we just doing bench testing?

I have (2) of these engines and I think I may have tached them at one time or another but frankly, don't remember. One on a YAK has a Xoar 19-8 prop and another on a very aerobatic CUB uses a 19-6 Xoar. Both props suit their airplanes quite well and the point here is I don't care what RPM they are turning, they do the job.

I would think your 30 would be under-propped with the 18-8.

The engine is on a AW Freestyle Extra 260 not flown yet. I ran a couple of tanks through it on the bench before mounting and it seemed to be turning up good at that point with the stock muffler but I didn't get a reading at that point. When I put it on the plane I installed a Bisson Pitts style muffler (you know, the one with the crimped exhaust pipes) and it doesn't seem to be turning up like it did with the stock muffler. I put the tach on it this morning and find that it peaks at 7200 rpm. I guess tomorrow i'll put the stock muffler back on and tach it again. If I find a large difference I'll cut the crimped portion off the Bisson and try again. I really hate the idea of cutting the cowl up to allow the use of the stock muffler. Sure like to hear from others what they are getting with the Xoar 18-8........RJ

You probably have a point regarding the Bisson muffler. I've used quite a few of them over the years and had to open or remove the crimped pipe ends on every one of them to get the engine performance I expected. They are no longer my muffler of choice as Jtec is preferred now.

Today I swapped the muffler back to the original supplied with the engine. Without any retuning it turned 7900 rpm, but boy was it loud. Then I ground off the crimped portion of the pitts muffler pipes and put it back on the engine. It turned 7800 rpm and was much Quieter. I will fly it this way before investing in some different props. I think that on the AW Freestyle Extra 260 a 19-6 or 20-6 might be a better choice, it is definitely not a speed plane nor do I want it to be. At my age (85), my reflexes are not what they used to be.........RJ

85? Wow, good for you! I hope I am flying (or even breathing) when I am 85!
