Default Saito FG-21 Timing Pin?

Hi,

I recently had my FG-21 in for service at Horizon for a no-start condition. They tested the engine and determined that the "timing pin" needed to be replaced. I got the engine back yesterday and it runs great.

My question is, what is the "timing pin?" I looked in the parts section in the owners manual but it was not mentioned so I assume it's part of an assembly. My guess is it's what I would call the crankshaft position sensor. Does anyone know?

Thanks,
Brian

The prop driver hub on the FG20/FG21 is indexed or located by a threaded pin that impinges into a hole in the crankshaft.

A back fire or prop strike has sheared the original pin.

The hub on the FG20 is located in a different radial orientation than the FG21 as the ignition systems are different and work on a different principle.

The neodymium magnet is oriented at top dead center on the FG-20 and at 28 degrees BTDC on the FG21. This is relative to the casting seam on the bottom of the crankcase.

Thanks! I see that part on the exploded diagram now. Is this a common problem? I would think it would take tremendous force to shear the pin. However I assume they want this to happen instead of the pin from just bending and getting the engine out of time. That would be a lot harder of a problem to troubleshoot.

It is not a common problem.

The glow Saito125 does not have the pin but a brass tapered split sleeve.
