a couple ideas from the pits
Hi guys,
Check out the little mod I made to my rear suspension arms. Got the idea from a picture of an Associated race buggy I saw in RCCA. "I could make something like that!" I thought. And I had the perfect material: A stack of Customer Loyalty cards I had sitting around. The little key-fob-size cutouts are the perfect size. They even have a hole in one end already!
Both my mini truggy and my SCT have mounts for a rear anti-sway bar, and the end link mount screw is right there on the front of the suspension arm. I just screwed it into place using one of the little plastic wheelbase shims as a washer, and trimmed the bottom a little. Voila! Rear-arm mud guards. And they work too. In the damp conditions we run in, the arms were always getting caked with dirt, as were the axles and the shocks. Even the shock boots didn't keep the dirt out. But these mud guards really keep things clean. (I also added a set of Bad Horsie shock socks over the springs.)
And since we have our own track, we can drink beer on race days! But the pit table can get crowded and inevitably someone spills his beer. D'OH! Not anymore. I've acquired a small stock of the white foam tire inserts, since I don't use them. (I use blue closed-cell inserts) I found they're perfect for fitting to the bottom of your beer bottle, and the wider bottom prevents spills from hits that would normally knock it over.
Cheers!

That is some great ingenuity my friend. I like how your mind works lol. The mud guards are something I have been thinking about doing for a long time on my Hyper 7's. I found a great place for shock covers. Its called www.RC-Skin.com , you get 40 inches of cover and they are rubber coated so they repel water, fuel etc. and you can cut to length.

Yeah, lexan would work. I was thinking about that too. but I didn't have any laying around. What's up, Anthoop? Haven't seen you around here much. If you know any of the "old guys" who used to frequent the place, tell 'em to come back!
Wow, those RC-skins certainly look like they'd repel anything. Very interesting, mattser. Bookmarked!

Great idea on the mud guards! I might try cutting up an old gift card and painting it black. Or maybe not paint it black, but instead make it look like I'm sponsored by Subway.
