Old man new to rc cars
Maybe I made a mistake but this is what I have to work with. I bought a used Hobao Hyper 10 4x4 SC with a castle 1410 brushless motor.
From what I understand I need a receiver, transmitter and a battery. My question is what will be compatible and the biggest bang for my buck?

Welcome to RCU.
I don't think you made a mistake as far as the platform goes, but I can't say much for previous owner of RC. I don't know how the SC was treated, and taken care of.
For a few dollars more than a super low budget 2 channel radio system; with minimal features, one can get a low budget radio with a lot of features. I'd recommend the RadioLink RC3S. I used to recommend a FlySky FS-GT3C radio, but had internal potentiometer fail in very short amount of time. The RadioLink is said to be a step up from FlySky brand. I still use two other FS-GT3C radios, but quality control has lead me to switch it up a bit with choosing the RadioLink RC3S for my low budget needs. I can't give long term review of it yet, but extra receivers are priced great if you so decide to add to your collection of RCs .

Hi Lloyd! I have a Hyper 10 SC. Very happy with mine. I've made upgrades to it, some you may want to consider: the aluminum front support plate atop the steering rack / servo-saver, the aluminum servo saver, maybe the aluminum steering knuckles, and aluminum front brace. Definitely get a front and rear bumper set from T-Bone Racing. Tower Hobbies and Nitro House have the upgrade parts. Run mine with a FlySky. I also highly recommend Gens Ace Lipo batteries. Best quality pack for the money. Pay a little more for a pack with a 50C or better discharge rating. And stick with 2S1P or 3S1P packs. Not "2P".
