Default hanger 9 80'' cap232

would g-38 work with this it is 3oz lighter than g-45, but won't swing 20'' prop very well. Mine swings 18-6-10 at 79 to 8,000 rpm's. might try to move batt back further into plane and not add any lead to tail. Would like to try to use engine i all ready have.

If you are not into the vertical stuff....a G-38 will be O.K....not great, just o.K.

IMO,either of those Zenoahs is the wrong engine for that plane. This plane already comes in heavy with a DA 50 or BME.The Zenoahs will make it even worse, and they are not that powerful to boot.Like I said JMO.We had one with a DA 50 and friend has one with a Brison 3.2 and they were both over 16 lbs,and we didn't do anything ridiculous like super large batteries or anything like that, pretty much all standard building technique.

How would it fly with a ZDZ 50?

I have one with a Taurus 52. Below are my stats.

Taurus 52 w/ Mezjlik 22x10, Dave Brown Spinner
1650 on ignition, 2700 on reciever
5@ JR 8411 on control surfaces
2@ JR 811 1 one throttle 1 on kill switch
JR Prolinks with Rocket City 8-32 control horns/ball links
24 oz fuel tank.

Now I am at 15.7lbs. If I wanted to spend a bit of money I could get it in the high 14's or very, very low 15's. The plane is awesome. Keep the throws low and the CG forward and the plane tracks extremly well. Move the CG back, increase the throws you will end up with a 3D tumbling monster. I would not go with anything less then a 50. I had a ZDZ40 in it and it was just not enough for Sportsman/Intermediate IMAC. The 40 was strong and great for sport flying but just didnt have the oomph for IMAC or 3D. Hope this helps

JohnVH,
I am really impressed with the Taurus. It is a extremly smooth running motor. I have about 3 gallons through it now and It is really comming on strong. I can take off pull it straight vertical do 2 aileron rolls then a double snap and keep on going. With the CG towards the back the plane pitched hard to the belly and rolled slightly in knife edge. I have moved the CG forward for sequence flying and the pitching is not near as bad. point rolls and knife edge are very easy now and they look darn pretty.

G45 on mine at just a hair over 17 1/2 lbs. G45 is more than enough for sport flying, not enough for 3D, but then neither am I.

this is a great looking model but very easy to make tailheavy -and then - just plain ol heavy once it is balanced -
ideally -it is under 15 lbs - but in real world -17 lbs comes up .
if you really want top performance - then make the tail group as light as possible - re do it if necessary - the model is not expensive and this fix is well worth it .
if you can pull 4 ounces out of the rear - it results in over a lb less needed up front .
big improvement.
I have flown the Caps -from Midwest (basis for this model as well as scratch built clones of this and -a H9 one with a ZDZ50 NG.
the H9 is 17.25 lbs -balanced by the owner -
power is nooo problem but the power off or low speed performance really is different -compared with 14-15 lb clones .

flybabyg38,
I have found that you want to start at the front of the CG range. Whey I first flew the plane I set the CG just about in the middle of the range or a smidge past middle. When coming in for a landing the nose would ballon up. It never snapped on me but it just didnt give me a warm fuzzy feeling. So I moved it forward and the balloning stopped. When inverted I have to put a touch of down elevator to keep it level. Also keep your low rate elevator around 5/8 of an inch. Rudder I have all you can get and I like quick ailerons so my low rate is somewhere around 1 to 1 1/4 inches. The elevator throw does not sound like much but it is more then enough for sequence flying.

Ok guys just weighted mine and now I understand why it feels so light and powerful:

15lbs 10oz w/ ZDZ 60 and Menz 24x8.

My H9 Cap with the DA50 and Slimline Pitts is 15 pounds 7 ounces...

All stock and weighed on two scales.

They aren't that heavy in my opinion.

Hey yall stop your bragging about the weight . Mine weighs16lb 12 ozs with a 3W 50. Beat that if you can hahahaha. Plane flies great and lands slow and lite. Vertical is unlimited.
