Default Kingtech GSU dim

I just got my K-85G2 setup. I turned it on and everything came up OK, but the GSU screen is *very* dim. I could read it, but just barely.

Anyone know what the issue is? I'm running my RX on a 5.6V regulator and the ECU battery was 9.8 volts.

Also, the RPM reading was jummping around until I spun the turbine using the starter test. Then it was OK and read correctly. Is it normal for the RPM readings to jump around when the turbine is not spinning...

you need about 6.5 volts on receiver for ECU to function correctly.

6.5V for the ECU to function correctly? I'm hoping you mean the GSU, because needing 6.5V for the ECU itself to function is not compatible with normal RC systems that are not HV. Not everyone runs HV systems in their aircraft.

Yes Bob you need the higher voltage for the GSU. The ECU runs on lower voltage

Kris,

Yea, thanks for the confirmation. I put a scope on the GSU-ECU signal lead and the signal was 2.5V, obviously not directly connected to the RX voltage, so I rigged up a harness so I could power the GSU with a separate 6V battery.

That solved all of the problems. Looking forward to flying the TopRCModel Cougar with the K85 at SJS!

I am running 5.9V with no dimness issues...I believe the GSU actually shows 5.7 - 5.8. This is through a powerbox Royal.

On my Spektrum RX stuff I am running straight 6.6V to GSU and dont notice it being any brighter. Again the GSU shows 6.2 - 6.4 V
