FW T45 Goshawk conversion kit available via HAB. If you choose to build your own installations make sure to get our 40mm tube, it's so much better than the 46mm commonly used. I read the Sebart one is 153grams. Out 40mm is only 47grams! With a heavy engine no need to fit extra weight to the rear.... LOL

Any issues or concerns with idle/residual thrust on the K30 relative to Kolibri turbines?

Batter up your skills, hang some weapons under the wings, choose a 90mm or larger jet to convert and it's not a problem. I see so many bullets out there where they tail mount the engine in a too small airframe, combined with limited piloting skills this makes for very fast landings. Don't know why people have the urge to do tings harder then they can be when there are so many good examples to follow.

Amir: [email protected]HAB have really cool things for these small engines as I have teamed up with them for years now drawing stuff in CAD that they manufacture. Advanced engineering to keep it simple for the customers. :-)

i see now you deal with amir i sent email to hab so hope it gets passed on for my needs of the 40mm pipe and i asked about kevlar tank for the sebart avanti 90mm also
the web site is not showing these items as best i could see

HAB is good in that way they dont sell you stuff you dont need even if waving the money. I bet Amir wont talk you in to kevlar either even if he has sources for one.

Freewing T45 Goshawk kit for K30.
K30 vs Kolibri. Starter dictetes most forward mounting position to clear the wing tube coming through. T35 and K30 mounts at the same place but K30 extends 20mm further back.... My mount gets the engine about 10" further forward from the EDF mount that is actually behind the wing by quite a bit.

Doing some schematics to figure which planes are suitable for this lump of engine ;-)

Look at the picture, it needs no kit. Engine can be mounted in the tail. Just make two small plywood planes and glue in there. Point of making this was to show that some airframes are better suited then others when going for turbine conversion. The Sky sword got a short tail combined with a ridiculous long nose. Makes life easier at lower weight.

Any real world experiences with this turbine? How are people getting on with it?
Does anyone know if they are in stock in the US? If not, does anyone have any idea of the current wait?

I’ve been flying one in a Mini Avanti for a few weeks here in AZ. I think I have about 11 flights on that engine (it had a P-20SE before). Much better vertical and even some more top speed, though that airframe is quite draggy. I have never enjoyed how long it takes most engines other than JetCat to get to idle and the K30 is no exception. I just had to take it to idle on the downwind leg and then bring it back up to about 25 to 30% until turning final, then it spools to idle quite quickly! Much better idle to full power than the K45 had, and while the K30 has a higher TSFC (Thrust Specific Fuel Consumption) than the P-20SE (to be expected), it isn’t so great as to impact the flight time as one only applies the power requisite to move the plane at the desired speed. In other words this engine can fly at 50-60% while the P-20SE took 75-90% to cruise at the same speed.

I have two of these engines, so far so good as in they start and run really sweet, I would say with our ambient temps 30n is a conservative output.
It is not kolibri light but cost almost half and has kero start, pick your poison. The weight is not a issue for most 90mm jets, some may balance with turbine on rear but I think most will benefit by fitting tube and engine forward to keep from excessive lead in the nose. My 90mm Skysword is 3800g rtf with k30 and lands lighter than my edf version which I built as light as I could.
I use the single wall grumania pipe at 45mm and it has been perfect for my needs, I don't doubt Henke with all his testing is right that the HAB 40mm performs better, but have to say zero issues with my setup.
I use a airsoft 9.9v1000mah life battery for ecu and it weighs 87g, can get at least three 6 to 7 min flights with that, poss 4. Fuel consumption well that depends on how you fly, I have 700ml usable fuel on board and can get 6 mins but I am hardly ever full throttle. Next build will have 800ml.
It idles at 90k, idle thrust is no problem on my 90mm sized edf jet for landing though if you land fast on tarmac it would be wise to have a throttle kill ready or brakes.
I think the fact I bought a second is testament as to how I have found this engine.

I have both a Kolibri T35 and a K30, I really like them both. Like Raydar said, they both have their pros and cons. Another thing to point out on the K30 is the spool up time, it’s amazingly fast compared to all my other Kingtech turbines and the T35. -Tom
