Default need motor recommendation - Ace 33% Extra 230

Hi all,

I have a used ACE 33% Extra 230. I have a G62 I can mount on it, with a built in CH ignition/mount combo, but it looks too big. Looking at the cowl, the former owner must have had a 2 or 4 stroker mounted in it.

So, my question is - what 2 or 4 stroke would really fly this thing. I hate to slice and dice the cowl for the G62, although I am partial to those motors, in experience. And, I am not sure I can mount it correctly on the existing motor box. The CH mount is a little too big.

thanks for any recommendations in advance.

Bill

i would put a 3w 75 in it or a maybe a sachs 4.2 , i dont think there is a glow engine that would fly that plane very well , i had a 33% pirate extra 260 and it had a sachs 4.2 and it flew it just right , not enough power for 3d flight perfect for aerobatics. oh by the way could you post a pic of the plane ?

Looks like a very good home for a D&B 3.7 to me. Ace did a lot of Miles Reed designs in their Extras-- I got the 260 and it is designed aroung the 3.7 with a 90" wingspan.

I have one with a g62 on it and it flys great. I have a bennett muffler on mine. It makes it easy to install. Hope this helps.

I have one with a Sachs 4.2, and I would not use any less. You will need all the elevator travel you can get. Ailerons as well. The roll with standard servos is slow and lazy. If you can, use 100 plus oz in. digitals for a crisp roll rate. Ditto for elevator and rudder.

Excellent flying plane. Not really designed for 3D, though. probably the best landing plane of all the aerobats I have.
