I have a Tower Hobbies Cutback 4x4 truck and keep having problems with the smaller 55T gear wearing the teeth on the center differential.

This is the second gear that I had in there, including the original, and the same problem occurred. The larger 62T gear does not have this problem.

I have a Castle Creations model 1406 sensorless 5700Kv brushless motor and Sidewinder4 ESC. I have both 2S and 3S batteries

Any help is greatly appreciated

The smaller the spur the more rotation and faster wear, same goes with running 3S which will also increase wear... if you do lots of hard acceleration and wheelies, then that will also increase wear... if you have thick fluid in your diffs, that will also increase wear.

I don't own the Cutback, but my TEKNO SCT410.1 came with a plastic spur which has lasted 5+ years before it finally wore out.

I would recommend going with 10-7-5 in your diffs to start and put -25% expo on your throttle to help soften the acceleration and see how that goes.

I understand what you are saying about the smaller gear but that is not the main problem.

1) The differ is not sealed it does not contain oil only grease on the gears
2) The original 54T gear wore out in about 10 feet. I ran it on slow to test everything and before it drove to the next house the truck stopped with the gear teeth gone
3) I can adjust the throttle curve but I never ran it even at even half throttle. I ran it about 10% throttle during the above test

None of these issues occur with the larger 62T plastic gear

Sounds to me like you are having issues with setting the mesh, I wonder if you can't get a tight enough fit with the 54T spur? Maybe consider going with a larger pinion with the 62T spur instead?
