Default Old Photos - Gone?

It appears that any photos posted around 5 years ago or more (8/2017 or so) are no longer in the threads. Did you do something to them?
I frequently direct people to a build thread, only to find out it's no longer valid because the photos are not there.

What a great way to drive in the final nail on this forums coffin.

i believe it was a legitimate question looking for a legitimate answer and not unwarranted sarcasm
Many members here including myself would like to have an answer to that very question.

For sure. One of the biggest benefits of this site is as a vestibule of knowledge from the older build threads. If that is gone, the value of this site is diminished significantly. I would have thought we'd have heard from a moderator by now?

My understanding:

That happens often, in older threads on web forums all over the place, when the pictures were linked to some photo-hosting company (like Photobucket). When the hosting company ceases to exist or do funky stuff (like Photobucket did, IIRC), then the photo ceases to exist in the old thread.

It shouldn't happen if the photos are uploaded directly from a user. If it does that, then I think it would be a problem with RCU.

They were not on a hosting site. They were uploaded straight to RCU.

Default Old photos???

Totally agree that older thread photos are valuable for research. Many of us have old planes in the attic yet to built.

RCU, please let us know if there is any way to retrieve or access these old photos.

Really sad that photos are gone... Always good source of information.

Funny that no replies at all from RCU?
Some might think that these forums are prehistoric already and all should be on Twitter, Instagram etc. and of course platform should be changed every month according to latest trend

I haven't heard back from IT yet, I know that they are tied up with an upgrade/fix to the Marketplace which may explain why.

Really dissapointed to discover all photos for my older detailed build threads and conversions no longer showing as are all my older posts in a search. Some more recent posts seem OK. I wish I had not bothered now as these threadss are useless and no longer a record for others to use as I had hoped. No reply from tech. Pity but think this forum is dying on its feet and less and less people using with many threads nothing more than two or three way conversion.

I too hope the photos are recoverable....
Such a huge disappointment if they are forever lost..

As already stated there is a huge wealth of threads that depend on those pictures to tell the story.
A lot of people put a lot of time into posting a lot of really nice informative threads on this site.

Sorry about strong wording...
If photos from ~4-5 years old threads are gone it renders this kind of forum to nothing.

At past, golden ages of web forums I remember that RCU was one of the biggest. Ulimate source of information. Photos are really good way to share and give information. How things done with the model and also those handicraft skils.

But as stated at the bigining, without those photos RCU RIP ...if that is not the way of the future at any case.
Who cares to start a new thread if all gone soon?

Does anyone know if this has been fixed yet?

It appears to be a significant body of knowledge loss. I have a build thread going, but thinking it's pointless if in an a few years my pictures/efforts will be deleted.

That’s great I’m sure you will. Is IT even working on the issue? This thread started 12/8/2022 and no updates? All we’re asking for is an update, are you in contact with IT? If so, provide a status update. Not hard.
