Default Split Fuel Tank

I recently installed a Cline System on my Four Star 60. I was debating at the time pulling out the tank that came with it and installing a better one. On my fourth flight today the engine died and I dead-sticked on the far side of the dry-lake. When I picked up the plane I noticed fuel dripping out. The factory supplied tank had split. This post is a warning to anyone going to a Cline System and using a cheap tank.

I would recommend that you tape your tank up with duct tape or fiber packing tape. This is what I did when I used YS engines.

Sometimes I think the only exercise I get is jumping to conclusions. I dug the tank out and the stopper was leaking fuel back inside the fuse. I tightened the crap out of it and think it wil be O.K. now. Change my warning to what is tight enough normally is not tight enough for the Cline System. My apologies to the vendor of the tank for the Four Star. I will fiberglass tape the tank before I put it back in. That is good advice.

It's always a good idea to do a leak test before mounting the tank in the plane. Just dip the tank in a bucket of water and pump it up with air to see if you get any air bubbles. This is important if the tank is to be used with a YS engine.
