Default .15 Rivets to Electric

I have a .15 Ron Young(Cox) powered Rivets 1/4 Miget racer from the early 90's racing scene that I'd like to convert to electric. With gas weight was 40oz. Any thoughts as to what size electric?
Thanks for your help,
Neal

Can you post the wing area and wingspan?

If you put it on a bit of a diet, I think you can electrify this plane without gaining too much weight. You can save a few ounces by going to micro servos and a micro receiver like the Hitec Electron. You'll be able to eliminate the receiver battery because of the BEC in the electronic speed control.

Off the cuff, I'm thinking probably an 8-cell battery, Sanyo HR4/5FAUP cells to give you the most duration for the least weight, without costing you an arm and a leg. Now here's where you need to make a decision... How much do you want to spend on the motor? We could go with something like a Jeti 15-3, or a car motor. I'm guessing you want this plane to be fast. That means direct drive, which makes things simpler.

Matt,
Wing is 42" with 350 square inches of area. What brushless would you suggest?
Thanks,
Neal

Actually, now that we've got some limitations, Motocalc should give you some useful suggestions. You can download it for a 30-day trial at http://www.motocalc.com.

Go through the power system Wizard. Limit the system to 8 cells. Limit the system to brushless, direct drive motors. Don't worry about the type of cells it recommends, only the number of cells. As long as the current is 40 Amps or less, the HR4/5FAUPs can handle it.

One possibility is a Jeti 15-4 with an 8x6 prop. With it, you should be able to get an easy 60MPH out of the plane, maybe 65.

Matt/Heinke,
Thanks for the info. I'll keep you updated on project. Won't get to it until Feb/Mar. I'm moving out to Tucson.

Henke,
How much current does this setup pull? Just want to check real world numbers vs. Motocalc.

I have no real ## Jeti Advance 40 did´t cut. my guess is 45A static. flight times were 3-4min. BEC did´t mind either

motocalc is usually very close on the Amps, might differ on thrust though
