RE: Best 3D prop for a YS 63FZ?????
Dave: Me and a friend of mine both have YS 63FZ's he has a UCD3D I have a Flip 3D we both us 13X4W APC Props, we hover at about 1/4 thottle and accelerate out of the hover for a good safety margin . We also use 30% heli fuel works very good with these motors ,the prop will work on YS 20/20 fuel also. Make sure you get the 13X4W underline W because they sell a 13X4 sport, or pattern that does not work. Remember now no more tail touching or they will put you in the AMA jail.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif] TomBob

Yup -got a flip w/ ys 63fz 13/4 wide apc is the perfect match for this eng. /airframe combo !
I run 20/20 also
I have little rudder left from a multitude of tail touches and happy to say no one has been killed !!!
but dont tell anyone as I dont want to see the AMA swat team show up where I fly !!!!

Another vote for the 13X4W. And be careful ballistic1, MI has a self appointed, self proclaimed "Safety Nazi" right here on this forum that has vowed to make it his duty to "drop a dime" on all tail touchers.

RE: Best 3D prop for a YS 63FZ?????
I'm like Mike..I didn't care for the 14X4W. If I ran it again, I'd use 30% fuel, I think it would help. I was running 20/20.
As far as 14" props go, I liked the Zinger 14X4 with the LE and TE sharpened and the airfoil on the front shaved down the same amount. The Zinger has about a 1/16" flat on the LE and TE. I'd shave that to a point then make the airfoil 1/16" thinner..don't touch the back. Then make the tips the same shape as an APC instead of square. The Pro Zinger 14X4 has a better shape, not sure about those blunt LE and TE's.

RE: Best 3D prop for a YS 63FZ?????
I've been using an APC 13x6 on 20/20 and it's been real good but, I happen to have a 13x4W in the wrapper and an almost full jug of 30% Cool from racing. I guess when I take out my newly rebuilt 63 (cracked the case in a mid air) I'll have to try this combo. Should be 70 and partly cloudy tommarow so the Sledge gets it's second day out!

The 13X4W doesn't really need the 30%..I get high 12's like 12.7or8K on 20%. That's wrapping up pretty good, but on a Sledge you don't need that max RPM much. 30% might get you over 13K...the YS says it'll do 15K without grenading.

RE: Best 3D prop for a YS 63FZ?????
I was getting 10G's with 20/20 and the 13x6 today, I'll have to see what the 13x4 does before going to the higher nitro.
I am getting a bit more vibration than when I had the 63 on a Somthin Extra and I know the crank is straight and the prop is balanced. It would hold 2000 steady on idle so I know the low end is good.
Is the lighter Sledge more prone to a little shakin than a heavier airframe?

Prolly...I always thought the front of the Sledge was about as stout as a fence post, But Dave Shadel (YS Factory Guy) has serious misgivings about running the .63 on profiles at all. That said..I've not had any trouble with them. Check the mounting bolts after the first couple of flights and let 'er rip.

RE: Best 3D prop for a YS 63FZ?????
They are probably trying to find it on one of the big distributors list (Horizon, Great Planes.. etc.) I had the same trouble getting APC 9X10's at my LHS. My LHS was finally able to find the 13X4W after a bit of research..
Anyway, APC Page will give them all the info they need, or you can just order direct and take it to the LHS and show them!!

I went to apc's website and I didn't see it there until I clicked on fun fly 3d props. There it was. I had to call them back with part#. Wonder if I will get a discount for doing the leg work? Dont think so. Thanks guys.

Hey Chuck, You dont let the YS 63 run that fast do ya?
I think Dave at YS says 11500 is about the fastest to run safe and long term durablity for the engine.
Thanks, Dennis

Yeah, I let 'er rip. Dave has also recommended the 12.25 X 3.75 APC for this engine. That would turn some serious RPM static. The key is, don't run it that fast except for bursts. I run the .63 over 12K static and have never even needed to re-set the valves on any of mine..I've checked them, but they were still spot on.
Don't be afraid, just don' be hard on that left stick.

I've been running the 14x4W lately. It's abit slow to spool up, but there's something about the way it makes the plane feel that I've liked. Better than the 13x6's I've run, anyway.
I put a couple of the 13x4W's on order at the shop today, I should have them mid-week. Can't wait to try them.
