how far out does the 106 stick out? I will probably use regular mufflers.

not far. i can not believe that there are people out there saying that the 3w106 is too long.. by the time you have the spiner, a 3 bladed prop and it starts to rock those wings you forget that the back plate of your spiner is about 1cm from the cowl. any way if you need pics i can send the to you

With the 3W there will be a 5/8"- 3/4" gap between the cowl and the backplate of the spinner. IMHO it looks like crap! The gap should be no more the 1/8" at the most for it to look good. You can call Tru-Turn and have them make you a custom spinner that has a recessed backplate. Just make sure your sitting down when they give you the quote. For whatever reason the plane was made with the DA100 only in mind. The DA100 requires some spacers to clear the cowl.

I have seen this combo, but you will have to do some reconstruction. I believe you have to chop off the front of the motor dome and make a plywood cap and then glass it in place. The spinner should be positioned properly around the cowel or it will look dumb IMO.

That looks weird, looks like the spinner is being held on by the air. Either way, wouldn't bother me to use the 3W.

There are four 2.6 planes at our field, soon to be five. Mine has a DA100 along with one other. The other 2 have 3W106s. Even those two owners are unhappy with the look of the gap. One has the Quique who hates it so much he has ordered a DA100 and is going to make the swap. There are also two 3M planes, both with DA150s. These CArfs fly great, no matter what size they are.

FC26
No matter what way you look at that gap, IT'S FUGLY. [:'(] I don't dislike 3W engines, they run fine, but the 100 series engines don't look good in this plane.

I am just going to get a DA 100. I havent had a DA 100, but will be satisfied if it runs as good as all my 106s.

I checked with my comp ARF rep and you can now order the 2.6 with firewall setup for the 3W. But I think I am going to try a 3m version. Mark,

Thanks for the info, if they make them for the 3W, thats what I would rather have being a 3W fan and all , I want the fantasy scheme, but going to see if they can do the blue instead of the yellow.

Well my 2.6 Extra was delivered yesterday and I just discovered that my 3w-100 is about 1!QUOT! to long for the cowl.[]

Is there any easy fix to this problem other that buying a DA-100? I hate to think about cutting the firewall and shortening the fuselage.

Thanks
Duane

I know of no easy fix I ran into the same thing so I sold mine to a guy that had a bme and was going to order one for the 3W but I have been thing on going to the 3M one. I did get a chance to look at the one that was set up for the 3W it has a plywood fire wall on it. Boy That yellow fantasy plane looks way better in person than it does on there web site. Mark,

I just got an email back from Mr Kane that said there is no special firewall in production, but there will be on the 2.3s that can accomodate more than just one engine.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Composite ARf Extra is the coolest plane. I just don't understand why they didn't make it known that the plane was made for a DA and that any other engine that is longer than 6.5 inches will not work unless major modifications are made on the fuselage.

Just to let you all know that Cactus Aviation now has a special spinner that lets you use the 3w 100 or 106 engine with out any spinner to cowl gap. The spinner is made by Paragon Aero which are outstanding quality. They come polished out to the best shine one can imagine. The spinner works just like every other spinner on the market with just one spinner bolt holding the cone onto the backplate. The backplate is machined to go behind the hub and to take up the gap to the cowl. This is a very clean system and the end product makes it look just like you have a normal spinner on the plane with no cowl gap to the spinner. So now all you 3w 100 106 fans can now bolt the engine to the stock fire wall and not have to worry about the gap. The number to Cactus Aviation is 520-721-0087. Thanks for the time,
Garrett Morrison
