RE: 21st century film covering
Yes you can trim with it but coverite is easier to paint the surface of coverite than use trim peices, why? because you should already know how well this stuff sticks down. I Doesn't! To put a peice of coverite on top of coverite itself is tough to do and make it stay. For some reason I could never get the wrinkles to disappear totally no matter how drum tight I got it before shrinking the surface, one week later they would reappear out of the blue and piss me off. I had one plane lose it's top skin after a seam unstuck inflight, I had used stix-it and clear coated it but it let go anyway.
best of luck to you,

RE: 21st century film covering
I have had real good luck with 21st century fabric-for trim color-Rustoleum works best although it takes time to cure-the 21st spray paints I have had not good luck with them at all-and they are not compatible with any other paint that I have found.-When I mask and paint-I use light coats of Rusto and pull tape at 45 degree angle when paint is still wet-Hope this helps
