Composite ARF 40% Need Control Horn Measurement
Need a bit of help. Could somebody with a 40% composite arf 330S measure an uninstalled phenolic control horn and post the measurement?
Thanks much,
Curt

You might have had an older Composite ARF. Uninstalled, the control arms are definitely over 2 inches long.

RE: Composite ARF 40% Need Control Horn Measurement
Hi Curt,
That's the beauty of this plane ,you can make the control arms as long as you want according to how much throw you want!!
The installed height is what actually matters...
The direct answer to your question is 2-5/8" long.
With these uncut, installed in the outboard slots the holes come out to 66mm from the hinge line .You then match the center and inboard horns to this #. At 66mm plus a Hangar 9 gold 1 " arm at the 2nd from the outside hole on a jr 8411 servo =2" of travel with 100%atv and 140%afr on a Futaba9z=the recommended low rate travel for pattern!
If you want 3D throws get the factory optional phenolic servo horns and or shorten the glue in horns to your taste. Each hole on the Hangar9 gold arm equates to about a 1/4" travel at the trailing edge of the aileron.
The supplied horns are the same from the older Fiberclassics and the new Composite-Arf
hope this helps, Dave

Excellent - thank you! 2 & 5/8" was exactly the measurement I was looking for. I've used the SWB 1.5" servo arms, btw. I can get big throws, but not quite what is advertised.
