RE: question for engine switch in sportmaxx
usualy people dont put smaller engines inplace of a bigger one but if you want to go for it. i know there are a couple .12 that pull 1.45 hp which is better than the trx 2.5 i would suggest asking your lhs since very few people will be able to help you out

RE: question for engine switch in sportmaxx
the swap shouldnt be a big deal at all should be a direct bolt in get a original tmaxx manifold .I dont know how the 2.5 pipe will run with the engine you have but I wouldnt be afraid to try it .if youre running a rotary carb you will need a little bit different linkadge set up that should just take a moment of thought .if you know what youre doing shouldnt take more than a few minutes to do the whole swap oh if you have a standard crank you might have to cut the crank and get a old style tmaxx clutch nut/pilot shaft .for the linkadge if you need a new chunk I found bicycle spokes work perfect .I run a few different engines in my maxx and have both clutch and linkadges .I would say if youre a few hours away from a hobby shop just keep asking questions on the net till you get it figgured out

Hello ZAD,
Since you have ran several engines. It would be nice to know some of your experiences with engines. What is Good and what is Bad. I am having trouble figuring it all out. I am looking at an OS .12 CV-X. It will be going in a Tmax replacing the orginal .15 traxxas engine. I am willing to loose performance for dependablility. I don't know. Do you think that would be going to small? That could be a disapointment also.

RE: question for engine switch in sportmaxx
by old maxx engine I mean the trx.15 that came on the first version all the parts are available from traxxas such as manifold ,clutch nut and linkadges look on the traxxas site for part # or let me know if you need more info nibortheyak thats quit the handle why would you want the 12 instead of the 15.I had a os cvrx 15 and it was decent but I had to shave the clutch so it would engage later because it didnt have enough bottom end for my likeing.if you have a 12 already I would say drop it in and see how it runs but I would not go and buy a 12 to put in the maxx.there are some powerful 12,s out there but they tend to be more power on the top end built for a lighter wieght vehicles whereas with a truck I want lots of bottom end if you want an os I would suggest a.15 cvx it has more bottom end than the cvrx.I have had good luck with the megatech .16 lots of bottom end power but if you look around you see some people havent been happy with them so far though I like it better than the cvrx for the tmaxx.honestly everyone is in it for fun power=fun get as much power as you can afford.if you get into 2hp or more it can be expensive drive lines, hardened diffs, ect.

RE: question for engine switch in sportmaxx
what about a fantom .18 in a new t-maxx will the drivelines hold up or will i be replacing with metal. i am thinking about a fantom when mine dies. i have 9 and one half gallons through it and its starting to go downhill from here on. i want to get the most power out of my t-maxx without replacing drivelines with metal.

RE: question for engine switch in sportmaxx
the stock drive lines will work but they will be a weak link ......I think the dynamite big block kit w/m.26 is a good deal then get a single speed kit for the tranny and get a 22t or 23t pinion ..then maximiser diff cup w/hardened gears and 3mmscrews ..then alloy diff cases very tough and powerful drive train at this point. if I was starting from the begining that is the direction that I would go
