Default Adding oil to fuel

I have read some places that people add more castor oil to their fuel to get better lubracation. But should I do this and how much shoul I add. Also wont that make the glow plugs last less ammount of time

Thanks

Dunno 'bout castor oil, as that's more of an "official" additive that I let the experts at the mfgs. figure out.

But I DO add about 4-5 drops of Marvel's Mystery Oil to each tank. I have no idea if it's doing anything, but I heard so many testimonials about extended engine life that I am giving it a try.

It's really an automobile product, but people have been using it in LOTS of other applications. It has a very thin consistency, knida like after-run oil, so there's no danger of unwanted buildup or other complications that may arise from adding things like castor oil.

You can get it at most hardware/auto/dept. stores, wherever they sell motor oil.

How long have you been doing that?

Ever since my break in (only aobut 2.5 gals. ago!!). Again, I cannot comment on how well it works, but I have to believe it's one of those "can't hurt, probably helps" kinda things.

I had one guy say he has NEVER had to replace his buggy engine sleeve/piston, and I'm talking YEARS of use!!

BTW, I emptied out an old Visene bottle that I keep filled w/MMO (NO softening of the plastic or anything!). It is only sold in pretty large sizes (12 oz. & up), so this makes the process a lot easier & more controllable. Also, the stuff is cheap, about $3 for a bottle that you'll be passing down to your grandkids!

Sounds great but do you know if it lowers the running temp or anything I think I might try it.

What kind of fuel are you using?

I think that WAS one of it's purported benefits, but I never did any testing or anything. I use Traxxas TopFuel 20%.

You SHOULD try it. There is absolutely no downside!!

My grandpa tells stories of MMO, he says it was invented to eliminate the "knocking" noise in the very first overhead cam engines (he's also a mechanic). He swears by it. He puts a pint in every oil change, and used to put it in the gas tank (before fuel injection). Anyway, point being, you're right, it couldn't hurt and I can see how it might increase engine life. 2-stroke engines require oil in the fuel. But does the extra oil bog it down at all or make it harder to tune? Does it smoke more? Also, is there extra oily discharge from the exhaust pipe?

I alway figure - the % of oils and fuel should be left alone myself. The companies that make the fuel should no more about what is needed and what is not. So I personally would say don't add any extra oil to the fuel.

Here their are many fuels and %'s to choose from. If you ask fr it, they will custom mix it for you as well. I buy the stuff already mixed from the manufacture.

I run 25% nitro - but there are some with more and some with less oils. The race blends have the least oil. I find with those I get lower temps and it is easier to tune. I tried the one with the most oil, and I can't keep my truck or buggy running with it at all.

I'm with ya' in general re. mixing your own fuel. But the MMO suggestion still applies, as it's a whole 'nother type of additive, and you only use a tiny bit.

I remember seeing and add, but I can not remember if it was hot bodies or HPI that you put it in with your fuel and it is supposed to bring some of the compression back to your engine. I saw it in a mag but I forgot which.

I also have seen ads for making your fuel smell like root beer and different sents like that.
