Closest to the engine is always the low speed and the thread is usually different...

Probably not, the thread is the easiest way, or take the spring off and screw it in until it bottoms out, you won't hurt anything unless you really crank down on it....

It is a sone deal..
I was asleep on watch, the diameter/thread is the key. This is the first rebuild for me and was surprized in the difference in Diaphragm - Surge (the one with the metal); they are more like condums than the potatoe chip that was in the carb!
It appears that the D20 and D10 diaphragms are the the same; did not have proper kit so could not replace the fuel pump diaphragm ( the tan translucent one). It appeared clean and no detectable wear.

The two types of diaphragms work equally well. the tan colored one is more resistant to the additives in gasoline.....
