[&o] I am a newbie to r.c. helicopters but have been into nitro cars for a few years now, so forgive if my question seems dumb. Is the tail rotor supposed to spin when left rudder is applied on the tx, or is it supposed to stop? When I move the left stick on my tx to the right the tail rotor spins up fine. My tx and rx are GWS and so is the gyro, a buddy of mine told me that maybe the tail rotor on my micro heli can not spin in that direction cause it will make the heli uncontrollable. Is he right? Can someone clear this up for me please? Thanks![sm=confused.gif]

No question seems dumb to me. I 've got the same heli as you do, and I modified my tail using the plastic blade (No more broken tail blade). The heli turn left using the force of the main rotor, and it turn right using force of the tail blade. Therefore the tail blade should stop when you move the stick all the way the the left. The tail blade produces force agaist the force that created by the main rotor, so it keeps the heli staying stable. Without tail blade the Feda would not be controllable. Hope this would help.

mtdv is correct in both respects, no question is a dumb question we all have to start somewhere.

These mini helis have a separate tail motor on a fixed pitch tail blade, so the tail motor will stop to let the effect of the main blades turn your heli the opposing direction( nose left in this case)

You may notice that a belt or wire driven tail rotor (on the big birds) do not stop, instead the tail pitch can be changed by means of another servo.
perhaps this is what you've seen and where used to....

MTDV, how did you mod your tail so that you have no more broken tail rotors??? This sounds like an awesome mod to me, seeing as i just busted mine last night Pics or details on the mod would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
