Default VF 58" Extra engine?

I ordered a Vectorflight 58" Extra and am trying to decide which engine to buy for it. I have read the posts about these planes but am confused as to recommended engine size since many posts don't specify which version of the Extra they are referring to.

Anyone care to comment? I am debating between an OS61 or 91. Recommendations?

Get the 91.
I had a ST91 and a ST 75 in mine and the 91 flies it really nice.

A friend has the 66" and I have the Sukhoi on order and we are puting 91 4-strokes in them, I have been talking with someone who also has the Sukhoi with a 91 4-stroke and said it is a great match for it and the 58" is lighter than the Sukhoi so it should be unlimeted veticle for you. Can't wait to get mine, However this weather is killing me and there is a forcasted 16" of snow on the way ARRRGGGG I need to fly something already.....

I have a Magnum 91 on my 58" Extra, and I love it.

I have both of the Vector Flight Extra's, the 58" and the 66".

I put an OS 1.20 pumped engine in the 66" and it flys quite well. The only problem I had was the landing gear was very weak and made it bounce on landing. Chipped a couple of props (turning a 16" prop on 1.2) due to low prop clearance and flex in the landing gear. A freind of mine gave me the landing gear off of a VMAR cap he crashed last summer and now I have no problems at all. I love it.

I am putting a Saito .91 in my 58". I have not yet flown the bird yet but if it handles like the 66" I am sure I will have another sweet bird.

Mr G-
I've got a 58-inch Extra and the Saito .91 on the way.

Please let me know how it flies and how you end up propping it. I've never run an engine that big and I don't want to waste a fortune finding the right size/pitch.

Are you planning to make any mods re: landing gear structure, pushrods, etc?
