The AV8R is a great cheap, quick build. easy to fly and overall..... fun to fly aircraft. A search will show numerous posts and pictures.

Hello.

The Y/A Stingray is no trainer, and does not fly like a Roo. It is quite fast with a 12 lb turbine.

I have not flown the AV8R, but from what I hear it is a trainer. So, it all depends on your skills and needs.

Just my 2 cent.

Search for "Stingray Construction" for a complete build tutorial of my Stingray to see what you would be getting into.

I flew a stingray which was powered by a wren 44. It was well fast and a real floater to land too.

If you can handle a sport, low wing prop plane or pattern style plane, you will have NO trouble with the AV8R at all. I know it can EASILY take off from a semi-rough grass strip in under 300 feet, and land it in under 100 feet.

The Stingray is going to be a lot faster in the air, but will require a larger runway to take off and land it, not sure about the longevity of the retracts on a grass strip either... I know it wouldnt be an option at my club's field whereas the AV8R is perfect.

Seen both...

theAV8R - cabable, but manageable

Stingray - small hot rod - very fast
