Default AV8R Help

I am flying a AV8R and when any flaps are added the plane pitches up wildly (yes I have some down mixed in) just want to know how normal is this? Seams like on straight and level and slow when the first notch of flaps are added plane instantly pitches up 45-60 deg, when second notch is add it again pitches up still more. I have not hit full down yet but I am very close

I have the servo's slowed way down on the flaps (using Futaba 9Z) to try to make the pitching up less pronounced I tried before and after and could not tell much difference.

On my TX I have flaps on a 3 position sw and am not able to get it to mix in down on the first notch, but on the second it will, any one have any ideas around this?? I would really like to have take off and landing settings instead of just one for landing.

Hi Don,

Nice combo. On my AV8R's I dialed in 3/16" of down elevator with full flaps. That cures the pitching right away.

Hi Don :
I also have an AV8R and also have close to 3/16 inch of down elevator with full flaps - about 60 deg. on flaps.

Ditto to the above posts. No pitching problems at all with basically the same setup.

Put 6 more flights on it today and figured out what the problem was - extreme aft cg.

I bought this plane from FTE and they used nickel-metal batteries, and I use 4000 mah duralites which are considerably lighter. We had a extra battery pack and we just Velcro'd into place in the nose and the plane flew 100% better. Before adding the nose weight I tried to do a loop and at the top the plane slowed way down I pulled on back on the stick to complete the loop and it instantly went into a flat spin. I was very lucky as I pulled out approx 30 ft from the ground, I have my aileron to rudder mix on and in the turns it would wobble even at 1/2 throttle.

Point is the extra nose weight made a big difference!

Where do yours balance at and did you have to add weight in the nose? Both of my batteries are as far fwd as possible.

Thanks,

Don

Don,
I am running a 1400mah battery pack for my radio and a 2000 mah pack for my ecu/pump and have them both as far forward as possible, and I still needed some lead up front for proper CG placement.

Hi Don;
Just went down to measure my C G, and it is 4 5/8 from F 3.
I used a JR 3000 ma battery pack for the radio, and a Ni Mh 3000 pack for my PST turbine.
With this set up, I didn't need any additional nose weight, and can get five flights with over 50 % of both packs remaining.
I did put an additional hatch in the bottom of the fuse foreward of the nosegear, so I could get to the packs, and also get them as far foreward as possible.
Good luck

I have a duralite 4000mah rx pack and a 4000 ecu pack both in the tip of the nose and mine now balances correctly with no extra weight.

Thanks again for all of the help!
