Fiberglass primer & paint help
I am going to fiberglass my model for the first time. I am using ZPoxy finishing resin and 3/4 oz cloth. I do not know what to use for a suitable primer to help fill the weave and compatible paint. the model is a powered sailplane called a Fournier RF4, 1/4 scale for contests this summer. I want to do it right. Thanking You in advance.

RE: Fiberglass primer & paint help
i have been trying something new to me that i found from mr huntley to be very light and very hard but cheap.i used lacquer based sanding sealer and put two coats on the bare wood, lightly sand the fuzz off then lay on your cloth and put lacquer poly u over that instead of z poxy, use about three coats as it is thin as water almost.remember that 80% of lacquer based ptoducts are solvents so it will evaporate and leave only 20% of the product on your glider.very light, strong and hard.wet sand when done with 320 wet and dry paper and prime and paint with any paint of your choice.but please use it in open air as it will give you one hell of a buzz

This is the "proper" stuff to fill the weave. This stuff sands easier than
the regular laminating or "lay-up" resin. It can also be thinned with
styrene diluent....2/3 resin....1/3 styrene for a thinner, even easier
sanding resin. It thins the resin somewhat....and lets it "lay down
flatter"....
The thinning is also desired when you are just coating bare wood with
the resin, and you want to sand it and paint it. It sinks into the wood better,
and gives a flatter coating than just thick resin brushed onto the surface.

RE: Fiberglass primer & paint help
Where can I buy this sanding sealer? I've had problems in the past with fiberglassing. I use spackle to fill dents and dings and it sands great but when I try to use a resin over it, it doesn't dry or takes days to dry. The resin over the bare wood is fine and drys within hours. Will this stuff you have work over spackle and can I lay glass down with it? In the past I have found Balsrite sealer to work good without fiberglass but I sure would like to find something that will work better over glass and sand fairly easy.
