If you anneal them it is easy to pull the element out. If I remember right get it super hot then slowly ramp it down with a glo panel driver, then you can pull it out without breaking it.

I know what you are talking about but it would be a $15 plug because it has to do with a turbine.

It's funny, I just pulled the one out of my engine and it looked like somebody did it with some sort of hydraulic puller, it did not look carefully done but it works.

If you had to change them more than once every couple hundred flights there just might be some value in it.

I have never got a couple of hundred flights out of a plug for one thing. Secondly I ruin about 50% of them trying to pull out element.

Scott I use the MC-9's and don't have a problem with them. I use a small dental pic. I only get about 40-50 or so flights out of a glow plug and replace it when my engines start acting up on the starts.

I hook the plug to a glow driver and pull the element out while it is glowing so that it is a bit softer and less likely to break. I keep a small piece of music wire with a small hook in it to do the deed.

There was a company a few years back that said they were going to make a turbine plug, but I never saw any thing show up, and I can't remember their name.

At Florida Jets, Carlos from RTI showed me some great plugs he had Nova-Rossi specially made for him for turbine use. I'm not sure if the filament was already pulled out but the neat thing I liked was that the top was specifically made for the turbine glow wire (spring loaded) to really clamp on and to not come off even when pulled. The plug was heavier (duty) than the R-8 I use. I believe he is selling them. If I did not have 50-60 R-8's in stock, I would have bought some.

Use MC-9's, they have a heavier element wire than regular plugs. I use a pin or an Xacto knife. Hadn't heard about the heating the element trick. I know John Redman says they like the Rossi plugs at JetCat but I can't get the plug cap to stay on the short post on those plugs. Since the software update on the P-80 I've gone around 275 flights on the same plug, 80 on one P-70 and 60 on the other.

I found this site the other day. It looks like Thunder Tiger is in the turbine market as well, in the orient anyways. Surf around and find the turbine page and look at the glow plug they are using in their turbine.

Finally got it to work. Here is a picture of it. One might have to see if Ace Hobby can get some to see if they will work in other turbines or if they can even get them.
