Best prop for a BME 50?
Got a new BME 50 for my 28% WH Edge 540 and need some advice on props. I don't think I want to go with the high-buck carbon props, just a BME, MENZ, etc. prop. Seems like 22*8 is the most popular... opinions? What about break-in vs all-out after break-in?
Thanks,
Tom

RE: Best prop for a BME 50?
I like the 22x8 the best on my BME 50. I am using MSC props, they will give a bit lower RPM's but the pulling power is awesome, it seems as though they are like the Bambula's. I think any GOOD 22x8 will do it, some people like the 22x10. I tried both and just liked the feel of the 8 pitch better.

Almost forgot, break-in. My intention was to break it in on the 22x8 and then switch to the 10 pitch, but as you can see that didn't come about, I just stayed with the 8.

The 22-10 Mejzlik will give you more zip. . make the plane fly more aggressively and give you better up lines, and the engine turns it about the same rpm as the Menz 21-8, perhaps 150-200 rpm stronger. The 22-8 Menz will be a better "Pattern" prop, slowing the plane down a bit throughout a sequence. For 3-D, try the 21-8 Menz, or equivalent, for really good hole-shots out of the torque rolls and better on-off throttle response.

RE: Best prop for a BME 50?
Well I have used 21-10 bme, 22-8 zinger pro, 22-10 mejlik, 21-10 mejlik and most recently a 23-8 mejlik on the bme 50's that I have had. For 3d I like the 23-8 mejlik, more bite for TR's, a little bit slower to pull out. A great overall prop is the Mejlik 22-10, pulls a little better on uplines but doesnt slow down as much for landings as the 22-8 23-8. I like the CF props, they will take a ground tic on a bad landing that will shatter a wood prop. IMO they are cheaper in the long run

I tried a 22x10 menz ultra as well. Its a better IMAC prop than 3D, the menz 22x10 standard seemed to be the best 3D prop of the bunch. If the motor is new, I would go menz 22x8, I had about 15 gallons through my 50 and it was ripping the menz 22x10 standard.
