Drift racing a T-Maxx?
i was just curious as to whether or not the PVC pipe tire trick would work on a T-Maxx like it does the cars to make it into a drifter. i wasn't sure about if the 4 wheel drive or tire size would make it feasible or not, like if you would need to remove the front drive belt to run power only through the rear tires or if it would just keep rolling over or anything like that.

ehh...it's ok....I have made PVC Tires...4in PVC couplers and Clawz rims....It tends to get the motor Hot real quick....so I stopped using them and went back to bashing.

I don't mean to offend anyone but drifting is kind of dumb (mabey not that dumb for rc but I think drifting is about summed up in this quote by GVFD29 "ehh...it's ok....").

i've seen those vids, and thats exactly why i wanted to try it on my T-Maxx and btw please disregard my mention of drive belts in my original post. this was before i ordered my T-Maxx and thought they had drive belts like the Nitro 4-Tec i was considering.

I made some out of the Claw Wheels and 4in PVC couplings.. I only ran them once. The engine ran HOTTTT 320 then I richened it out almost to the point of flooding just to cool it down. Not going to try that again. lol

RE: Drift racing a T-Maxx?
you could drift a maxx , but it will be very difficult. Nitro cars are much heavier than electrics, and since there is a clutch involved the power transfer is delayed, whereas an electric motor will give much more instant power to the wheels, you will be going through clutches like there is no tomorrow. Also the higher CG (Centre of Gravity) makes it more difficult to drift and making the car feel "Sluggish" through corners.not to mention the over heated mill.

try takeing your front drive shaft out.... its hard to drift a 4wd car/truck because the front end pulls to hard because you actually sending power to the front wheels.

?? how would this help?? maybe if you like donuts.. no offence but to me the only real way to drift a car is with 4wd.. if you only powered the rear wheels, you wouldnt drift in the corners, just spin out.

Ya I enjoy working SCCA Road Ralleys, ive NEVER seen ANY rear wheel cars drift before ?!?!?!?!
Then again i wouldnt know what im talking about seeing as I have a 4 wheel drive toyota that i routinly take off road, both crawing around on tight trails, and blasting on fire roads "baha style"
from my experince I can only get my truck to drift in 4 wheel drive if i have a SIGNIFICTLY loose/low traction surface ie the only time ive been able to do it on snow. other wise i can routinely get it to drift on both pavement and (much easer) gravel in 2 wheel drive. (and i have a locker in the rear which does help some)
All i can say is take the 5 min to pull the front drive shaft (not half shafts) and try it.
btw the PVC wheel thing just simulates the same thing i experience on snow. ie VERY low traction surface.
DISCLAMER to all you "kids" please dont hop in your "new car" and go out and try this, stick to the little version please. DISCLAMER

RE: Drift racing a T-Maxx?
Hmm never heard of a rear wheel drive drift car????
Correct me if Im wrong, but the S-13 thru S-15 Silvias are all Front Motor/ rear Drive cars, with the RB20DET motor
Most R33-R34 Skylines that drift in competetion are Converted to RW Drive
350zs, AE86s, and a host of other hot imports are all rear wheel drive, and Rhys Millens new GTO he plans on campaigning in the drift world is also rear wheel drive.
Now from a random happening my ol' T-Maxx became rear wheel drive only one day, and just on slightly wet pavement I was able to make some pretty long and nice drifts, but Like GVFD said I did notice a huge increase in tempature as the motor was doing all that spinning and no real forward motion to help cool it.
Yes there are some great 4wd drift cars, I own one of them, a 2003 Subaru WRX STi, however on most roads there needs to be something to help loosen the traction, otherwise the car will lose its momentuem and the tries will regain grip, and you'll come out of the drift. I have had it quite sideways playing around with it in large parking lots, or down the AutoBahn

RE: Drift racing a T-Maxx?
My comment was aimed at RC cars not real cars,, which have a significantly grater ratio of Power vs weight ratio,, plus adding PVC tires. I'm sure you would have a very hard time driving your rear wheel car on ice.. while attempting to drift around a corner.

avg nitro engine ~2hp? avg Tmaxx ~10lbs = 1hp/5lbs or for every 5lbs you get 1 hp
avg car=2000lbs (2000/5) = 400hp?
last i check your avg honda/Toyota/Ford/GM that weighed in at 1 ton did NOT have 400hp motors.
for a REAL example
my excab truck weighs a hefty 4800lbs (2600 front 2200 rear) 4800/5 = 960 hp? think 180hp on a good day
Dirtdriver
its a 94 Excab V6 5speed (locking hubs) <digging up a pic>
