RE: whats the stupidest thing.........
I heard a guy talking about his new RS4, when his friend drove it full into a curb. His response was "I thought it would wheelie!!!", and then after driving for a while, and getting into like timing for fun, the same friend said something to the effect of "Wow, you actually going to drive it not just do donuts?"
Pretty bad.
Pretty bad.

hmmmm the worst things i have heard were:
"Since the RC10GT is so old and well known, im surprised they dont sell it at Wal-Mart" (i was deeply offended by that)
and
"AA Batteries on a nitro truck? Why do you need that? i thought it was nitro!!!" [sm=tired.gif]

ICrashThings, to that 1st quote, that was posted on this board about a week ago, from an RC'er, who was using the statement in the context that so many LHS's and suppliers sell and carry GT's and their parts/hopups, that he is suprised that WALMART hasn't caught onto the trend. He was not using the statement in a negative way, and immediately posted a rebuttal to the statement explaining this. If you're going to quote someone, use it in the context in which the author used it, and also....the question is asking what a NON RC'er has asked you....what you provided was a statement, not a question, and it was posted from a fellow RC'er.
I think the funniest question I have been asked, is "You say it does 70MPH.....but that's not 70MPH like a "real" car (as if these are fake), but 70 scale MPH right?"

RE: whats the stupidest thing.........
Just because someone dosnt know dosnt mean the question is stupid. Actually there are no stupid questions just stupid answers. We have all probably asked questions we wish we hadn't when we first started and the more involved we gotr in the hobby the more knowedge we gained. A question no matter what even if we think it is common knowledge shows interest. We need to cultivate that interest if we want to continue to grow the hobby. so instead of putting people down for thier interest be nice extpain and answer tjhier question who knbows you may make a new friend.

I guess you may have heard it, but not understood it, humour can be a bit complicated for the intellectually challenged sometimes.
I agree with Feather plucking, If you know nothing about a subject, how do you learn without asking?
Im sure non of you were born knowing what an R/C car was, i mean Nitro? what? nitro-glycerine? Nitrous oxide? someone says to me they have a nitro car, it could either be, bloody dangerous, bloody fast, or bloody small!

ya i totally agree with u....i work at a LHS and obviously i get alot of those questions. i dont tend to make such a big deal about them anymore bc most people know nothing about the hobby when they first see a car or step into a LHS...i just try to give them the 101 on the hobby and let them decide.

Still dont make the question stupid, it either means the guy didnt understand the first time (some of us "get" things straight away, some of us dont) or he wasnt taking any notice of it.
There are no stupid questions, there may be a stupid reason you dont already know the answer though.

RE: whats the stupidest thing.........
I too work at a LHS, and the kind of people that i get aren't really stupid and uneducated as much as they are lacking in common sense. I got this one customer who would take his car completely apart when the ENGINE wouldn't tune. I sighed the usuall, "Tallyho" and proceded to put it back together.......One problem though, he didn't give me any of the screws or the radio to assemble/tune it. He did this five times.........in two months.......each time w/o screws;[sm=stupid.gif] he finnaly ended up selling it in the end. A classic, but short line that always puts me in a good mood (rediculuosly extream sarcasm) is when someone lays down 700 big ones on e-bay and then comes in to the shop and says, "I got this really nice car off of e-bay, can you fix it for me?" of course the car looks like it's been to he|| and back again on a nuclear missile, but hey ya know, business is business.

RE: whats the stupidest thing.........
Gentlemen...
For what it is worth...
I realize that some of us might get amused or even astounded at the comments that "neophytes" and hobby outsiders/observers might make. However, keep in mind that we were all at some point "outsiders", and it takes time for folks to catch on to how things work. And, yes, it takes much longer for some than others.
That's why some folks make millions of dollars and some make thousands. It is a harsh reality that some of you are smarter than others... and the bad news is that there are many who are much smarter than you. Learn this, and you become smarter!
I am sorry that everyone is not equally intelligent, but that's the way it is.
My observation is that some of you get "offended" by the foolish statements of those who are actually complimenting you and showing admirable interest in your fantastic models. Yes, albeit in some ignorant fashion.
I suggest trying to understand that.
Jim

RE: whats the stupidest thing.........
I agree. Completely. Let's have fun... You are "right on" here.
I do understand the frustration of having to deal with those who 'don't seem to get it'.
On the other hand, let's keep in mind that we want to attract people to the hobby, not drive them from it.
If insulting the intelligence (or lack thereof) of others is fun, then that is the way some see it.
But, we all have opinions. Each person must proceed as they see fit, and they will live with the results.
Enjoy the forum. I'm sorry for spoiling the fun of others, if in fact I did. My sincerest apologies.
I will say no more about this subject.
