BORN.

Just ordered mine today. Putting the Lanier 33% into retirement.

I will have this one blessed before flight to stem off the tide of "bad landings" lately.

Erich,
Yep, you'll be a smiling when a flying this bird. About "all" the recent demises of these planes, one has to keep in mind, that after they became Composite-ARFs (became affordable), they have been selling like cupcakes worldwide, and there are MANY of them out there now. Since it is kind of a plane in its own niche, and owners usually really like them and try to push them (talk potential new owners into ownership), we (owners) probably probagate towards other owners a bit more than 'wood plane' owners do, and therefore any bad as well as good news, find its way to this forum.
When you say it's spooky, I am sure you are just referring to some silly superstitious nonsense he he, since really none of the mishaps in question has been caused by structural or other Coomposite-ARF related failure. What should really spook us all, should be the use of the presently available radios, since that has been the cause of all recent bad.

Gee guys thank for the votes of congrats! I ordered the "plane jane" white/blue standard, and I expect to paint and trim it myself in more of a full scale scheme. I will essentially be moving some equipment from my Old Lanier into this bird, namely the Brison 6.4 twin, batteries, four 5645s and two JR4721s. I have four more 5645s on order for ailerons. My old 5645s will go to rudder, 4721s back into elevator (until I acquire two 5945s). I trust my old 2700ma NiMh packs, so I'll cycle them a couple times on the Super Nova and throw em back into the new bird. New batteries I don't normally trust in a new bird. I will replace all switches and charge jacks and such. I will also move my I4C Products C-Volts into the new bird (love them things). I may sell the Lanier to someone wanting to move up into Giant Scale, just as she allowed for me to do four years ago.

I don't know if I will ever go beyond 35% in the near future, but who knows. I have a first born on the way, and don't think another bird would compete well for the required kitchen passes.

I'll start getting digis as soon as she shows up at my shop at work (UAV Shop--pretty handy eh), and spread the word of the newly born.

Cheers,
Erich

Good deal Erich,
Keep us posted on the pics. This will be the first I've heard of a Brison in this bird (Although I'm sure it's been done). DA, BME's, ZDZ's and 3W's are all I think I've seen at the moment. Take some pics along the way for us if you can

Rick,

I have seen/heard of several instances of this plane coming out tailheavy with lightweights like the ZDZ 80 and BME, so I trust this ole Brison will keep balance in check. She doesn't have the power of a DA, but she's bullet proof and runs under most any conditions. The only downside to this motor is that the spark plugs angle upwards at a 45 degree angle, opposite of the DA. This either requires the use of 1/4X32 plugs, special caps, and adapters, or, as will be my case, require cutting out the cowling. I will be painting the top blue to match the bottom, so they won't stand out too much.

How long was it for you guys to get an order status. I ordered Monday, yet I can't get a status from Bobby or the website. The Extra was supposedly in stock.

Geistware,

I assume you refer to the Lanier? Make an offer, she is for sale. Be advised she has 1 year old covering all over, and is stripped of electronics. The Canopy has a minor crack in the upper rear area. It has the modified foam and glass components over the stock ABS. Rudder and elevator hinge lines are 1.5 inches forward from stock, and the weight of the airframe was reduced two pounds by cutting lightening holes all over the place. She's sturdy, though, lasting for 6 years of contest duty.

Erich,
The quote or order reception should come right away. Make sure your junk mail settings aren't catching it. If you have any problems don't hesitate to call the rep. Thats why they are there. Ray Labonte even called me on sunday from his house - they work hard and have good service.
Regards,
RickP

Hey finally heard back from Bobby. Apparently, Comp-Arf is changing warehouses in NV, and are getting things settled in. He promised my Extra will ship on Monday. So, anyone that ordered a plane last week, expect a slight delay.

The spark plug caps did Not require cutting the cowl on our 2.6 (with a Brison 6.4) which we have been flying for about 8 months at the "Sparks" feild in Pinellas Co. Power is great, balance is on the spar & no trim or extra weight was required, batteries are 3 - 2000 nmhd, receivers are 2 -Fut.149`s. prop is 26-10 biela, and it weighs 25.5#. If you would like some Pictures let me know & I`ll ask my grandson to send them, (he is the one who flys this). Its a great plane and your going to love it!

best wishes & good luck
al w.

Hey Al,

Thanks for the heads up, it's quite a relief actually. I was this ][ close to getting the small plugs and caps installed on my ignition.

How is that field for giant scale? Doesn't the sun bug the hell outta you? I drive 45 minutes to Bay City up on hwy 52, but the sun is at my back all day. Some have also tried to get me up to West Pasco sometime too. This area (Oldsmar) sux for getting to a field...no good way to get to anywhere from here []

Post some pics, that'd be great!

Erich
The small plugs are required and result in a clearance of about .01" to the cowl top surface. A tight fit but no holes necessary.
The runway runs N-S and since your facing west the sun is tough late in the day. (I think were going later this a m )

Well, the bird has arrived, and despite Con-Way's best efforts, no damage. Note the huge holes in the box below. I started assembly per the manual, but there's a callout for 9 3MX12 bolts on the cowl, and another 9 for the canopy. Well, there's only 9 in the kit, plus another 9 3mX16 bolts. I used the 12's on the cowl, and 16's on the canopy frame. I also got the frame mounts and elevator servo horns glued in. Cowl mount holes were drilled using Clecos and blind nuts are installed. If you wonder how I got such a big shop, it's actually my UAV shop at work

More work to come this weekend.

The boxes are Pelican Cases that contain this UAV, the Pointer...a small electric UAV used by Special Ops forces for real-time photo/video recon. The round things are spare/busted nose peices.

Yeah, the bird breaks down and the fuse/tail goes into one, and the wings, stab goes into another.

Yes, my dream job has finally come true We may be hiring in the future, as a new bird enters the field soon.
