Advice from owners of BOTH AFP and G2?
Hi Guys,
I have RealFlight G2 with add-ons and like it a lot. In fact, I learned to fly on G2 and it helped me jump from my Avistar trainer to a GP Extra 300S as my second plane. The Extra flew enough like the sim that it now has about 150 flights on it with no major "incidents." I also have sim versions of my Sig Somethin Extra and Mountain Models Switchback (electric) that fly close enough to the real thing to let me test out new maneuvers before doing them at the field. It took some tweaking to get these planes to fly like my real models, but they do.
All of the "buzz" about AeroFly Pro on this forum has me considering picking up a copy to expand my "sim hangar." I'm not much of a 3D pilot, and enjoy sport flying and basic acrobatic maneuvers like 1/2 cuban 8's, stall turns, inverted flight, knife edge, 4-point rolls, lopps, rolls etc.
From the posts here, I gather the AFP is the hands down winner at 3D. I've watched the videos of folks 3Ding in AFP, but that does not do much for me .... same as seeing all the guys hovering when you connect to a G2 multiplayer session. If I'm not looking for 3D will it be worth adding this sim to my hangar?
For those of you who have owned both, what do you think?
Thanks, and happy landings.
Carl

Ok, for basic aerobatic maneuvers that do not entail bringing the plane close to stall speed, RF does ok. If all you do is loops, rolls, or basic "pattern" aerobatics, I think you might be disapointed that you layed down $140 for AFP, because RF simulates those close enough(although probably not as well as AFP).

Yes it does in fact work. 100% Positive ... as I am one of the owners of G2 and AFP.
You still need to connect the 9 Pin cord to your computer even if you are using the Real Flight controller. Just wind it up and plug it in. It works like a key for the program. The software is not encrypted. The cable is the encryption mechanism.

Thanks for the response. I have done that, but the program, which loads correctly, does not recognize the RFG2 controller and does nnot allow me to choose it (it is USB). Can you tell me how to get it to work?

Hi,
Is it possible to use a real transmitter ( i.e. Futuba) connected via the interface on the RFG2 controller with the AFP.
I have AFP working with the G2 controller, but sofar no luck with my own transmitter connected to the conroller.
rgs,

No you cannot use the Real Flight controller to your radio. You must hook your radio directly to the computer. Which radio do you have?

Yeah, that does work OK.
But, I would like (if possible) to have the same HW set up for both simulators(RFG2 and AFP). With this ONE setup I
could avoid switching cables and connectors when switching simulators.
Ideal HW setup:
The RFG2 controller connected to a USB port on the PC.
My Futaba transmitter connected to the RFG2 controller's interface.
Sometimes I use the RFG2 controller and other times I could use the transmitter.

If you're not looking for the most accurate 3D simulation (I never could get a plane to flat spin in RF for example) you probably won't be happy you spent the money on AFP. Since I got AFP I haven't touched RF but I'm mainly interested in large plane 3D flying. RF has a lot more planes, motors, etc. The 3D landscapes look better by far in RF but the newer photorealistic flying areas that people have made for AFP really look great. There's still a lot of non-3D planes in RF that I miss in AFP.

Bill,
Thanks for the input. I may order AFP just to see what all the fuss is about But, that will probably mean I NEED a 3D plane too ...

Are there any settings that need to be changed or do you need to calibrate the G2 controller? I have the 9C interface and for fun tried to use my G2 interface and it just won't recognize it..
