I have a 3.2 brison on mine and its plenty of power, A DA 50 would also be a good choice, so far there isnt anything I can do that the plane cant do for me. It take off at 1/2 throtle and can go straight up untill I tell it to stop!

A dog with a DA 50 he he thats funny, the DA 50 is around 5 horsepower, my brison puts out 26 lbs of thrust if you build the plane right it should weigh 18.5 lbs or less the result is unlimited vertical, more power than you could use! I think the DA is a little bit stronger than the Brison and a little lighter, but its 150.00 more either way plenty of power, if you must use a glow engine use a moki 2.10 but you still wont get the performance the gassers give you...
Here are a few pictures of my pride and joy, I bought it from a great guy right here on RC-U, Mike, he did a great job of building it I just get to enjoy and fly the crap out of it!!!!
Notice the sick lightening work he did on the metal parts it comes in at 18 lbs 9 oz full of fuel!!

1fish thanks for the pics that is a nice trim scheme on that baby! I would prefer to go gas I would rather pay a few extra $ for a gas engine and have the power and fuel cost advantage,up here in canadaland glow fuel is about $25 a gallon and those bigger glow engines can suck it back. Forgive my ignoance but what is that linkage for, the that goes from the carb to just behind the spinner ,is that some way of advancing the timing ?I do like the lightening holes on the gear (the gear is pretty beefy)

Your exactly right it is for timing advance....
For this size of plane I wouldent recommend anything but a gas 50cc engine or maybe a little bigger, but not smaller, only the biggest glows would work but like you said the fuel price would be very high...

Icenine'
The lightening holes are because Fish has the ARF version and it comes out heavy. The kit will build lighter and that is a good thing. Keep weight savings in mind while you build because if you compare to newer models it is heavy.

I had the ARF with a Brison 3.2, plenty of power but the thing weighed 18 lbs. and would snap out of a loop even with the CG forward and low rate elevator. I sold it as fast as I could and got a lighter plane.

I built the kit and through in a Q-75B. I did not lighten up anything and the plane needs a heavy engine up front for proper balance. Great flying plane and excellent 3-D performance.

I was told the kit would comeout a little tail heavy , and to keep it lite back there. This is my first big plane . I have had it built and covered for awhile now with the exception of the fire wall and paint. I just wasnt sure on gas or glow but after hearing that alot of you are pleased with the performance of a gas engine I think Im going that route.
I just want to thank everone again for their input ,any more information you could give me (setup, servo choice, one or two on the rudder .Im currently using an 8103) would be helpfull. I just want to hear what others have done and what works well .

Phil.

Ice,
It sounds like you did it right. I highly recommend the Brison 3.2 based on personal experiance, outstanding customer service, weight and cost. On your 8103 you can run the elevator halves on seperate channels to eliminate the need for a reversing harness (they can be troublesome) and you'll have all the mixing you'll ever need. Many will tell you to get digital servos but the Hitec 635's would be plenty. I would run them on a 5 cell pack for max speed and torque and a regulator so you don't have any glitching when the batteries are freshly charged. Mount everything except your rudder servo and battery and then you can place them where needed for proper CG. I had one rudder servo and it worked fine but I'm sure others may disagree.

mine was a kit and it came out 15# with a fox 3.2 home made glass cowl three battery packs there are some pics on my web site www.lambertsrc.com I have about 20 flights now and will do it all blenders waterfalls ,the flattest spins ever hovers at 1/4 throttle ,can touch the tail wheel and run it all the way down the runway and never touch the mains . This is my second to build the first was 19 # and came out tail heavy ,take a look Kenneth

Anybody know if the cowls for the ARF and kit are interchangeable(same size)? I have the ARF but had to repaint the cowl twice due to the paint peeling. I think the resin used for glassing it is bad. Thinking about purchasing one from Stan's but that one is for the kit.

Thanks,
Chuck

Build the plane light...

I have mine with a Brison 3.2, rudder servo close to the wing tube, 2 elevator servos in the tail.
Ignition battery in the motor box, Rx battery under the fuel tank....

Awesome 3D & IMAC plane....

I might sell the airframe only after I get the Extreme flight YAK-54 though...
