hmmmm. i wonder if you went to your local airport and got a gallon of 100LL if it would run good. I dont know, i am not a as engine guy yet. i use strictly glow. But i work at an airport and i do know that small engines love 100LL. weedwackers, snowblowers, lawn mowers, go carts, dirtbikes, all love the stuff. Just gotta try not to breathe the exhaust cause there is lead in there.

RE: leaded fuel or unleaded for gas engin
RC Showcase says not to use it due to lead fouling of the plugs. I've often though I might save the fuel I sump and try it out, but I'm not sure I want to clean plugs if it fouls. Wouldn't cost me anything since I don't use a Gatt Jar, except maybe time to clean the plug and the time at the field when I couldn't fly.

You need unleaded gas....You can also use Coleman fuel in small gassers if you don't like the strong odor of gasoline lingering in your vehicle.

Av gas is kinda sorta Colemans with lead added. Both are highly refined. The smaller engines don't need the octane, so they may be responding to the higher heat value (BTU's/Gal) of the fuel.

Use unleaded gas or aviation gasoline or napha or Colman camp fuel if you don't like the smell of gasoline. These small engines do not need lead nor high octane.

unleaded 95 from the pump is just fine. i've also tried unleaded 98 and found no difference, even with higher compression engines.

People are right though, AVGas does smell better than MoGas.

Avgas will work fine on our small engines, and fouling is not that big a deal. Remember when we had leqaded auto gas and we changed plugs every 12,000 miles! Just check the plug and clean/replace it if the engine does not sound correct. It will not stink everything up like auto gas will, but you will notice a slight power loss using avgas vs. auto gas.

The 93 Octane rating for ZDZ is a European rating. The European's do not measure octane ratings the same as North Americans. I was running my ZDZ'S on 94 octane until I found this out. Now I switched to the bottom line stuff, I think it's 87 oct. and they run just as good. I believe the 93 Octane in Europe is the low end gas maybe one of the European guys can chime in and help us out here.

ZDZ's are supposed to need at least 93 octane per the sheet that comes with mine. It's a higher compression engine than the normal engines you find and therefore it's requirements.
People are right though, AVGas does smell better than MoGas.

That is correct, they use the RON which is a higher number. What I have not been able to find out is what the MON is; However, in South America they have 95 RON (which is what ZDZ suggests) and the MON they have is 81, giving by our system 88 octane gas. Who knows for sure the MON ch has?
The following link explains the theory. It is absolutely correct that using a higher octane fuel if not needed is going to cost you HP and waste money. It's only needed for some engines. I would think the grade above 87 octane is best based on what I've seen of MON's in South America, but without knowing that number in CH you're guessing by using 87 octane. Will 1 point make a difference, probably not, but it's cheap enough to go to the next grade up and the loss of power isn't that great.

Over here in western Europe you'll be hard pressed to even find 93 octane... maybe in the back end of Ukraina or something you'll find 93 or lower...
In my country 95 is the "low end stuff", while the so called "super" is 98 to 99.

RE: leaded fuel or unleaded for gas engin
The only reason that lead is in any type of fuel is simply to lubricate the valve stems. Some time in the 70's, car manufacturers started to nitride their valves. This alone solved the valve lubrication issues, and satisfied the government mandate to remove lead from car fuels.
2 stroke engines do not have traditional valves like a car engine.
Lead is a heavy metal, and cannot easily be removed naturally from your body. It is POISON. Do yourself a favor and stay away from it..............period.
